Colorado Springs Community Dying?
« on: July 28, 2007, 08:54:41 PM »
It seems to me that as the Denver scene explodes with action (great job to you guys :)) the Colorado Springs scene continues to slowly die off.  Since I've been pretty much gone for the past 8-10 months I haven't really noticed how bad things had gotten.  Either we have all gotten really busy or we have just lost a little bit of the drive that we used to have.

I would like to pump some life back into the Springs.  We seem to be really unorganized and very sketchy on almost everything.  We are going to need everyone to try a little bit harder to make an improvement but I'm confident we can do it.  Some ideas that I have (or stole from you guys in Boulder  ;)) are:

-Make a regular (weekly) training session
-Hold more jams (ideally every few weeks, but more like monthly to start out)
-Get people involved (invite friends to train and jam with us regularly)
-Get more involved ourselves (spend more time doing daily workouts and working on the basics)
-Force Demon to move down here to organize everything for us  ;)  (just kidding  :), it would be nice though)

That is pretty much all I can think of for the time being.  If any of you have any more ideas or suggestions on how to get us up and running again please post them.  As for all of you in the Springs GO OUT AND DO SOMETHING!!!   :)  We can't let all of you up in the Northern parts have all of the fun.

check out the jams child board for weekly training planning...... I feel a revival in the works :)

Heya Cheetah!

I would recommend having a weekly (rather than monthly) jam a-la what Ryan has been doing up in Boulder. Some weeks there is only two people showing up, but it's been a sort of tour de hotspot around Boulder...it gets people together and allows newer traceurs the benefit of seeing areas through more experienced eyes.

That combined with the Wednesday gauntlet night gives us two nights a week to gather and then make plans for other times..etc.

It's cool that you are getting the scene down there organised.  ;D

PS: Also, I've been editing the COPK hotspot map (link off the COPK hotspot page)...if you have any spots you would like to add, let me know and I'll post them up for folks to find :) And when you get a chance...can one of you guys down there confirm the Tiffany Square location? I'm not sure if I have it right.

Thanks for the idea, thats counds great.  I think this is going to be a slow process, but even if I have to train alone the first few times I will get this to work.  After all Seb claims that training alone is the most productive method.   ;)

You have the location of Tiffany Square correct, It's on the corner of Woodmen and Corporate Dr. just off of exit 149.  I'm not sure if you can revise the article at all, but the whole top level is now occupied by several TV and satellite companies.  It isn't quite as empty as it used to be, but the employees don't seem to mind traceurs.  I will also try and put together a couple more hotspot write ups for you. Thanks for the encouragement  :)

Dying?! How could you Josh?
We we're actually just intentionaly fading out of the public eye so we could suprise everybody later
but now you blew our cover.

I guess now we might as well get back involved

I think the first thing we might want to do, just to gain a little momentum is go scout out a gauntlet, maybe closer to the residential area of town for comuting's sake
But why would I tell you this here, text messages are a more direct venue

Sweet, thanks Cheetah....send all the corrections/new spots to Demon as I usually just take the info directly off the COPK website and insert it into the map.

But, in the meantime, any time I have an address, I can pin it on the map :)

I don't see why not, can you do anything later?  I was thinking about open gym Sat 12:30-1:45, we could do both.  Chances are we will get kicked out of tiffany square fairly quickly, the day guards aren't too keen to us training around there.

There's a school on 30th north of Fontmore/Fillmore.  It's got a playground area, low wall in back.  Don't know of anything else close.
I have friends showing up from out of town at unknown time so early is all I know for sure tomorrow (today, now).  Is the open gym around here?  Was hoping someone had one, didn't know.

Well I wouldn't say we are still far from being veterans, but we would definitely do our best to help.  :)  Like Quazar said, we will be meeting at Tiffany square this thursday at 7 pm.  It's on the corner of Woodmen and Corporate Dr. just off of exit 149

The address is 6805 Corporate Drive, but it is extremely easy to find.  If you are going south on I-25 get off at exit 149, make a right turn onto Woodmen Road, then immediately make a left onto Corporate Drive.  Tiffany square is the first building on your left, we meet at the far side of the parking lot, near the highway.  I hope to see you there  :)
