What Type Of Shoes To Get??
« on: July 20, 2007, 10:03:39 PM »
Alright so i'm going to start up PK, but i have no idea of what type of shoe to get. I've read they overview of the type of shoe to look for, but i have gone to many stores in my city and i still don't really know of what type of shoe to get. So if anyone could help me out, please give me the name of a good PK shoe that i could get here.

Thanks

Go to urbanfreeflow.com and look at the products they have, you can see shoe reviews, I think they have 3. You should get the idea after that, but basically it is trail running shoes.

When you're starting out, try to find something with decent cushioning but look mostly for durability in the upper and good rubber for traction. Lighter shoes can be nice, but you probably won't notice a huge difference right away. I would try to save a bit of money and find something decent enough that's on sale. The biggest mistake you'll make is getting something too light that will fall apart and be a waste. As was mentioned, trail-runners seem to fit this bill nicely, and you can get some good deals on models that  are 1-2 years old on ebay.

New Balance tends to be really good. My 601's are fantastic. I'm on my second pair. They're great all around.

Yeah, new balance works alright, got some old crappy pair that are really ugly looking, but they are good shoes. I want to get some shoes from this place called fleet feet in my city, they test you and figure out what shoe would be best running shoe for you, and they have really good brand names. I want this pair of shoes that are 110 $, but i probably won't end up with them. They look amazing though.

I LOVE Fleet Feet! Are you in Madison, WI? (You can answer me in PM if you don't want to share that info publicly).

Alternatively, if you are in Madison, please visit www.madparkour.com :)

Okay, that hijack out of the way...

Achilles, I wouldn't worry too much about shoes right away. Grip is probably the most important thing but it's best to get a decent pair you can run and exercise in, without spending a whole lot, until you learn more about how you move, parkour-wise. Pretty much any kind of athletic shoe will do the job. If they're wrong for you, you'll know it, and you can make a different choice on the next pair of shoes. But for now, just pick up a pair you like, that feel good on your feet, and start training! Hopefully your PK career will be long enough that you will have plenty of time to quest for just the right pair of shoes for you.

she would be beyond all walking, and would fly.
