Diving Kongs
« on: July 18, 2007, 07:21:53 AM »
I can kong and double-kong most size tables, but once I get past a certain length it seems impossible. There's this 8 foot (or so) picnic table at one of my training spots, and I just cannot seem to clear it without hitting the table with my feet or legs. At least I've stopped bailing every time, but still. I think it might be because I don't get my hips high enough, and if so, you guys know how to improve on that?

Record yourself doing it a few times, and then watch the video. I find that often I can analyze my own technique if I'm watching it, and then improve upon it.

One tip, try to bring your feet way way up, and if you keep your body straight, that should raise your hips.

The recording is a great idea.

Most of the time, the problem is your body is so used to letting your legs drop down after a certain distance.

When your hands hit the table/bench it usually causes your hips to drop down. So you have to hit the object earlier to keep your hips up above your shoulders. This is why there is double kongs. Because after one kong, the hips start dropping, so they hit it again to push there hips up higher for just a few extra feet.

Try hitting the object earlier and harder. (Diving farther can't hurt either, but watch your knees...if you hit 'em at full speed in a dive kong, your out for a good week and a half.)
Whether you believe you can do it or you believe you can't; you're right.
