Thanks for the tip. I never thought about approaching the flag that way.  ;D

I feel like I can almost do it, but my lower arm's wrist and my side starts hurting.  Maybe I'm not vertical enough.

I got a vertical flagpole for 7 seconds on a volleyball net pole.

Thanks Demon!

It seems to me that grip is very important. A lot of people who can't do the "real" flag pole stance use one hand to actually grip the bar with the actual hand and then the other arm kind of wraps around the pole then the hand grips it. This is a good way to start it if you are having problems and need to build up to it. I noticed that in Demon's tutorial pic and in his vid I noticed how his top hand is gripping a second bar that comes out horizontally instead of the vertical pole. I feel that using that other bar is a cheat on the true flag stance. I know Demon has mad ability and I am not knocking his skills. But I feel he is doing a bit of a cheat in his pics/vids of his flag stance on that brownish pole with the sign a the top of it. I know Demon is defiantly good enough to pull it off in the proper way and I would like to see him do it or at least correct it on the tutorial pic. (I am not trying to be a jerk or anything negative but I feel that the tutorial should show the full and proper flag pole.)

The joy of surpassing the limits of the body is open to all.

Yeah, the only problem I have is because of the twisting of my hips and legs, there's alot of stress of my oblique. Is this a problem with my technique?

i just used that pole because it was the best thing i had when i had my camera at red rocks. if you can do one, you can do the other. the only difference in my opinion is that both hands on the same pole takes a little more balance.

I've been trying to strengthen my obliques so I can do these better, do any of you know any good excercises to do that, diagnal crunches don't really work that well.  ;)

fish flops...i guess that is what we called them at the gym.  Get on side...arm on the ground props up head, elbow on ground.  Other hand stabalized on the ground.  You pull up on both cheast and legs.  you pull into a smile position.  I dont know if that is what you already said but yea...you look like a floopy fish.  Another one is hang off of something like a bed or something and have someone hold your feet.  Do huge long side crunches...a wide range that way.

the getting vertical and slowly lowering toward horizontal is what conditions your core to be able to hold it horizontal. holding it up vertical is pretty much all arms.

its just how i think and how i progress. im not one of those people who just works up the balls to do something new and scary. i take a mental approach and figure out how i can work up to things. when you thats how you always train, you can come up with some pretty innovative methods.

Thats really cool, I'm really glad that you're in Colorado, it's much easier to learn from you in person (even though your videos are really good).  I've been working on the flag pole on my basketball hoop, it's quite difficult to get my legs up because the pole is too big for my hands to go all the way around and I slip. Maybe it will work better on a warmer day. :)

yeah its hard to do if you cant get a good grip. top hand grip is key, if you dont have that, you cant do it. the bottom hand is less dependent on grip. its not even neccesary, you can just press it really hard against the surface.
