Liquid Diet
« on: June 29, 2007, 08:47:30 PM »
I was really doing a good job of conditioning and practicing parkour everyday, but then i had an oral surgery. The doctor cleared my for rigorous physical activity, but i'm still on a liquid diet for another week. Any foods that will sustain my energy level so i'll be able to move?
I am the young man, full of strength and hope,
Tangled in that ancient endless chain
Of profit, power, gain, of grab the land!
Of grab the gold! Of grab the ways of satisfying need!
Of work the men! Of take the pay!
Of owning everything for one's own greed!

If it's removal of like wisdom teeth you can eat soft foods -- at least I did. If it's for some other reason, then try to stick with stuff that's pretty high in fat content since that has the most cals per buck. Try to mix in ground up nuts and oils (flaxseed is good) with any drinks you make. Excessive amounts of simple carbs in most fluids will spike your insulin up which isn't that great for your body. If you really need calories go with a milkshake or something...

Cream soups are good (e.g. cream of broccoli, cream of chicken, etc), as they're fattier and substantial; plus it's a good way to get your vegetables if you eat cream of [vegetable] soups. :) V8 juice is also a good way to get your plants in, as is gazpacho. Smoothies are good if you keep the protein level high and the sugar level low (plain yogurt, whey or soy protein powder, and 1/2 to 1 banana for body and sweetness). Crushed ice helps them taste better IMO--the colder the better!

Hummus isn't exactly "liquid," but it's soft, and you can eat it with a spoon to get some good protein, healthy fats, and fiber. Same thing with yogurt. Puddings and custards are good ways to get some protein in; especially if you use sugar-free varieties or sweeten with sugar substitutes they can be a nice choice for a soft food; especially baked custards. Poached eggs aren't liquid, but they're slippery enough you can essentially cut them up and swallow each bite without chewing. :)

as though there were some obstacle in the way;
and yet: as though, once it was overcome,
she would be beyond all walking, and would fly.
