Handstand Press on Railings
« on: June 27, 2007, 12:40:52 PM »
We've all seen it. It's almost a cliche in parkour/freerun videos. I'm speaking of the handstand press on metal railings that meet at 90 degree angle. I'd like to learn this move and it obviously takes a good deal of strength. My handstands are consistently 15 seconds or more on the ground and when I'm fresh I can do a pretty clean handstand press off the ground. Is there any secret to training this move other than just doing handstand presses on increasingly higher parallettes?

Kick up to a handstand and attempt to lower down as slowly as possible. Rest, repeat. I got this move after working the hell out of the negatives on parallettes and getting a pretty decent L-sit to handstand press there. Once you can stop at any moment in the negative, you should be able to bear down and press. Having the press down on the ground will help a LOT, as you already have a decent idea of the mechanics involved. Good luck!
