This is a sad day for redrocks. . .
« on: June 10, 2007, 10:12:29 AM »
A couple of days ago my roommate and i were out at red rocks doing some rail training and were confronted by a security guard, whom neither of us had ever seen. This man informed us that what we were doing was in violation of the "no climbing on the rocks" rules they have posted, as it is the property of Denver County. Im not sure if the stage area and adjacent seating areas are covered by the no climbimg rules since they are man made and publicly owned. Either way we took our leave peacefully. Just as a heads up to all you red rockers, watch out for a guy in a blue shrit with long blond hair and glasses. He seems to prowel around during the hours of noon to 5 pm.

I know what you mean, I was confroted by a man that said the same thing to me. I wonder if it was the same guy, I also think they have raised the securety there. Hopfully it's not because of parkour! :-\ let's keep it on the down low

Thats just BS if you aren't on the rocks. There is a reason the signs say no climbing on the ROCKS. I don't think there is anything wrong with doing parkour around the stage and stuff. With that being said, it is probably not worth it to try to argue with him. I would say just move on to another area of the amphitheater and come back later.

No dice on the movement Demon. He and his minions of fun busting followed us to the lower parking area and told us that precision jumps and climb ups were no good aswell. he has to sleep sometime though, and i plan to be there when he does.

Haha, if he follows you, take the opportunity to work on your conditioning. See how he likes following you then. Nothing wrong with a little stair running and ground level QM.

I like the "test your endurance on him idea" I really don't understand why they have gotten upset about this, people have been Parkouring on Red Rocks forever, and that guy must not be hearing what is coming out of his mouth if he says that you guys are violating the "No jumping on rocks" rule.

Yeah if you talk to the guy you can smell the bull$#!* on his breath. Haven't seen him in a little bit though. Hopefully he was fired.

It's a shame that so many people don't know what parkour actually is, because it really is a sport or at least will be considered more of one as time goes on.  It's still a really new and emerging sport though. Too bad it's not like the UK where they don't give a Fk what you do or where.

yeah its definately misunderstood and that means people wont like it. i hope however that it gains more acceptance and doesnt turn into a competitive thing because i view it as an art not a sport.

True. The problem is, despite our best efforts to be courteous and not interfere with authority, people who don't understand anything about it simply give it the skater stigma. Annoying as it may be, such is life. I think if we continue to demonstrate that this is non-descructive sport then eventually people will begin to see it as non-threatening.

agreed. my purpose is to clear the obstacle and express myself physically. breaking the obstacle or obstructing the flow of commerce is counter productive to that goal. i hope people will eventually see traceurs as disiplined people who want to improve themselfs and their coexistance with their environments. although breaking the social norm will always be viewed as a negative thing i hope that through exposure and the good will of the traceurs we can change that opinion.

Exactly, I'm so tired of people telling me to quit "showing off" If II wanted to show off I'd learn gymnastics and do those for people, but I'm specifically practicing Parkour because I love doing it, not to impress the strangers I'll never see again.
