Getting Started You'll want to work on getting your landings down first. Start on level ground. Make sure you can land softly and silently after you jump.
A game I tried on flat carpet last night: Go barefoot. Put two pennies down, a foot or two apart, 2 - 3 feet away from you. As you jump, focus on the pennies, and try to land on them with the balls of your feet. Toss the pennies 2-3 feet away, and do it again. When you think you have this down, try NOT landing on the pennies. Land with the balls of your feet like 3 inches to the outside of each penny. What you're doing is deciding where the safe [or unsafe] place to land is, and then trying to hit the safe spot. You're also trying to build up the strength in your legs.
Try taking a few steps before your jump. Experiment with the distance. See how well you can hit the marks.
The sticky part of Post-it notes work ok on bare floor, tile, or concrete. You want something that's not going to hurt you, something that won't slide. You can put your shoes on, and go outside, if you'd like. Try landing on the cracks in the sidewalk. Try not landing on the cracks.
After you've got flat ground landings working, try jumping onto things 0 - 18 inches tall, and jumping off them. Curbs, low planters, flagstones... there are thousands of things.
After landings, work on rolls.
Team Ukemi roll tutorial is the best one I've seen so far. Concentrate on your basic roll. You'll use this after landing with a lot of forward momentum.
That should get you started, and keep you busy for a while
