You're probably slamming down your shoulder still. Try to to make it a smooth transition through by curling your arm through to spot your shoulder onto the ground. Practice makes perfect though -- you 'll want to obviously try them at slower speeds to get your technique down first. Then work towards getting them with more speed out of jumps or from running.

Don't worry about maximum height. Start off very small with less than 3'. Your joints need to be conditioned so that they're not taking any injury. Remember, guys like David Belle started off very small for years and then progressed up. He's been training well over 15 years to be doing large drops. If you start doing them right away without proper progression, you're going to damage yourself probably within the year if not long term as well.

If your just learning your rolls, start in the grass, then move to concrete or pavement after your shoulders and back are conditioned enough.  Start small and in the grass, then work your way up.  This is a good way to "condition" your body so it doesn't bruise and ache when you move to bigger things.  The more rolls you do, the stronger your back and shoulders will be.  It's just not used to it right now.

"Be round"

This may sound silly at first (it did when my Aikido sensei told me) But it really helps!

The rounder you are, the less chance you will have of bruising one of your protruding bones (hip, spine, etc) It will also help you to roll quicker and smoother and help preserve your momentum to get up and run!

Whenever I do a roll I hurt my shoulder too, I end up with bruises on it after a while...=[  How can you fix this?

I dont' get how you land on pavement/cement.  It hurts and I get bruises on my back/pelvic (not groin LOL) area.  Is it because I'm just skinny/bony or am I doing something wrong?

When I roll, I barely touch the ground until my shoulder is over and I contact with my muscley part of my back, I'd say right about at the start of my ribs. It's works for me, and I don't get hurt because there's no protruding bones.

You're not doing anything wrong, I'm really bony too, and I've only very recently started getting the roll on concrete/pavement down so it doesn't hurt. Not sure what I do, but my shoulder blade still gets nicked sometimes. Hurts like a *** but I'm getting better.

On topic, yeah just like everyone else said, just practice in grass or on a mat or something, then get bigger.

I've seen a guy jump off a f#ckin tall bridge and not get f#cked up, it was sick, no lie. Start at the back of your shoulder then after the start crunch into sort of a ball (chest to knees, sort of) to make your back rounded so you roll smoothly and faster making it all one fluid motion. 8) ;D
