Gonzales/Baton Rouge Area
« on: July 28, 2014, 10:03:51 PM »
Just checking to see if there are any Traceurs/Free Runners in Gonzales or anywhere near it! I don't see too many posts with anyone really around here, but there has to be someone other than me? :P I'm somewhat new to parkour/free running but not a total newb and think it'd be cool if there were any other people around here.

I didn't think there were any other people in the Gonzales area training. I just started training a few weeks ago so I'm still pretty new though.

Yeah, I know.. Kind of sucks. Where are you at? And I've only been training seriously for about two or three months, so I'm not too great, but I know a lot of basic things.

I'm in Gonzales. I've got a few vaults down I just have trouble finding places to practice.

Ahhh cool, I mostly train at my house. I'm been thinking about going into the city more and doing some training. I learn all of my vaults on a picnic table at my house, so if you have one you should learn on that. I train over the corner of it at first then work my way up to over the whole thing. So far I've gotten a kong vault, dash vault, reverse kong push, reverse vault, and speed vault over it. I've even konged over the long length of it.

I'm working on the double kong right now, and trying to get my reverse vault and reverse kong better.

Yea all I've got to train with is a pool toy chest. It's probably smaller than it should be but it helped me get get over the fear of vaulting over things. Right now I know the Kong, speed/safety. I'm working on the dash right now. Yea once classes start back up (at lsu) I'll probably be able to find better spots to train at as well as maybe a few people to train with.

The dash vault was actually pretty hard for me to learn. I was too used to going over with my hands first. And I'm pretty sure there are a lot of people at LSU that do parkour, my older brother told me there was a club or something there. I'm still a junior in high school, but he started college this year.

And the dash vault shouldn't be too hard for you to learn once you get over the initial fear. I learned mine by jumping onto the table, landing on my feet, hands, and butt, then pushing off as fast as possible until I could do it without using anything but my feet and hands and then until I only needed my hands. Idk how that might work on the pool chest, but it helped me.

I'm a sophmore at lsu and I will definitely look into any kind of clubs around campus. For the dash I kind of go at an angle and do a sort of lazy vault and gradually try to put my feet first and decrease the angle that I go at

Ahh, I've seen that on a Tapp Brother's parkour tutorial I think.
I think it's supposed to rain all week, until the day after I start school again which means I won't be able to do much training >_> I was really psyched to get my double kong too... Even planned on doing my first front flip...

Yea I found the Tapp brothers a few weeks ago. Their videos are what finally got me motivated to start training. I also use some of Kyle Mendoza's videos. And yea the weather is gonna suck, but there are still thinks you can do like increasing flexibility, and small indoor exercises.

I watched some of their videos, but I always found Jesse La Flair and Ronnie Shalvis's tutorials more helpful. I learned pretty much every move I know by taking both of their advice and then doing it my own way. I think I'm still going to try and learn the double kong if it dries up enough and do my usual conditioning and stuff whenever it's not raining. Only thing that's really gonna suck is pull up... I do it on my basketball goal where the water refuses to dry up and for some reason wasps seem to hide there when it rains.

They're both pretty great. I learned the double kong yesterday off of their videos. I just learned the kash vault from Jessie's tutorial.

Oh, damn... I missed it.. I haven't been in APK that long and haven't been in contact with any Louisiana freerunners so I was unaware. Will there be another next summer?
