Move Like James Bond: Discover PARKOUR! with chris levesque
San Francisco Classes: Course 157QSF Section A

Did you happen to see the latest James Bond film Casino Royale?  The opening action sequence is a perfect example of parkour.  Parkour is an art to help you pass any obstacle with only the possibilities of the human body.  It focuses on fast efficient movement adapted to any environment.  It does not include flips, tricks, or acrobatics as they are unnecessary in moving forward quickly.  Students will learn to gain control over their bodies, with a slow but steady progression of techniques. They will apply movement in an outdoor setting that could save them from a life-threatening situation.

Students should wear sneakers (preferably with no plastic on the sole), and sweat pants or running pants. Any other safety gear is optional.  We will get dirty! This is a very demanding discipline. Expect a real workout.  Come hydrated or bring a water bottle.

Class 1: * Verbal intro., history, explanation, safety, etc. * Light Jog & Jump warm-up * Stretching * Jumping & Landing Techniques * How to roll * Dropping from height * Basic vaulting * Intro. to advanced techniques * Combining techniques.
Class 2&3: * Verbal lessons:  Speed vs. Power, Community Ethics * Light Jog & Jump warm up * Stretching * Precision landing practice * Rolling practice
* Dropping from height * Advanced vaulting & techniques * Combining techniques
* Exploring with "parkour vision."

Chris Levesque, a Maine native, has trained in parkour with elite traceurs (parkour practitioners) all over North America. In 2006 he founded New England Parkour, and in one year turned the dormant region into a thriving community with over 250 members.  That summer Chris would craft his coaching skills by training new traceurs all over New England.  Chris has represented parkour in many media outlets including The Boston Globe, the TV magazine Chronicle and NPR. After moving to San Francisco in 2007, he started a parkour program at the AcroSports gym.
