I'm there. Only problem might be getting subs to teach my ballet classes, but this is far enough in advance that it shouldn't be a problem.

Of course, if I don't get a new job before then, I'll have to decline. But I'm doing everything in my power to make it. I think this will be really good for me. Hopefully I won't make you all laugh too hard.

Not sure if a new thread has been made or is needed, but well be headed out there as well (from Arizona ) with about 6 ppl and that number may easily climb.  Just if we have to leave a notice I hope someone sees this and knows lol.  Just incase we have to do like a reservations thing or just to let the person who is in charge of the jam know  .

But yeah, I'm using money from a campus job I had this past year, so I have a LITTLE bit saved up. Hope you can come, but if you can't, I'll definitely let you know what you missed, and try to recreate any major learning experiences I had.

My exact thoughts on this were :

Let's see, total time driving to get there would be 25 hours according to Google Maps. I was originally planning on flying there but if there's enough people a road trip is always fun :] Driving straight, no overnights, in shifts we could make it in a day!

Let's say 35 MPG, average gas prices to $3.00 per gallon, total driving distance [from Rockville] is about 1683 miles. 1683 divided by 35 is about 48. 48 multiplied by 3 comes out to about $150.00 for gas to get to CO, give or take. $300.00 for round trip. Divide by 5 if we have a full car and split it up and that comes out to $60.00 a person, don't forget to add cash for food and drink.

At 20 mpg it comes out to $100 which is still more than half as cheap (minus food & drink).

Just to add a bit of logical insight here. 5 people in a car is uncomfortable, but it's worth it.
You say $100 for gas is half as cheap as a round trip ticket for $235. Yet... since you get FIVE people there for that much.... it's only a tenth of the price if you split the gas.

It's still 2 months out so I'll see how my financial/job situation is coming closer to the date but I'd be interested in road trip. I'm in Severna Park, MD.

Actually, it's $100 per person .. although its probably closer to the 70-80ish since 20 MPG is low.

It will probably be 1/2-1/3 the price in the end.

I can't go because I'm going to be in China at that time, but just a quick calculation:

You can get to Colorado in 25 hours. However, after around 16 hours of driving, anybody coming from DC is going to start feeling tired. So, factor in lodging money (around $50 a night per person if you play it cheap)

Also, as a note, gas is going to cost $3.50 a gallon average, not $3

A car that can comfortably fit 5 people and their luggage (while running the air conditioning, because August is f#cking hot.) is going to get the quoted 20 mpg.
So the cost is going to be (1684/20)=84.15

84.15*3.50= $294.53 for gas.

Assume $20 a day for food per person (You should be eating 3 square meals a day to keep your strength up). Driving there means you leave on the morning of the 8th, get there somewhere in the morning of the 9th and rest so you can be refreshed for the jamming on the 10th. On the morning of the 14th you leave, and get back sometime in the morning of the 15th.

You'll need food from the 8th-14.

8,9,10,11,12,13,14= $140

So personal costs are going to be roughly $140+50+58.91= $248.91

Flying is $253 for roundtrip tickets+ Food ($20*4)= $333.

So, driving is still cheaper, but not dramatically cheaper, not to mention that it takes up more time and leaves you in a cramped car with a bunch of sweating guys, and requires you to shack up in a potentially bedbug ridden motel for the night.

Just keep that in mind.
