Wall Flip
« on: April 03, 2007, 08:39:16 AM »
Could anyone tell me a site with a how-to on the wall flip, I have been wanting to try to do it.

If it helps I'm 6ft 1, and weigh about 140.

Thanks for the help.

but a big part of it is finding an environment that YOU feel comfortable trying it (i.e. a gym, a matress, etc.) because everyone does these differently. good luck

I haven't mastered the wallflip yet, but I've been told many times that's it's 10% skill, and 90% mental.

yeah that technique works fine as long the person doing the flip commits to the flip. the people spotting you are not there to flip you merely to make sure you dont kill yourself. ive spotted two different people while they tried to learn. one committed and he did a couple with our help. the other didnt commit at all and he didnt make it too far like that.

the easiest way i learned to do a wall flip.........

my dominent foot hits the wall at about nipple height. I find it alot easier to start out higher and get rotation than starting lower and maybe landing on my head. Jump off your weaker foot about a foot in front of the wall. Plant your dominant foot about nipple height and in a quick motion throw your hands up as you push up and back off your dominant foot, and lean back. Bring both of your feet up to complete the rotation. When you see the ground upright again extent your legs to land. Dont close your eyes, and always look in front of you, it will help with your balance.

let me know if that helps at all

Knowing how to do a standing back helps and kind of lets you know you'd have the strength and everything for that. that said its not a requirement because they are easier.

And at first you may not be able to rotate as fast as you want to and you may land with all fours on the ground.  But as you improve you'll figure out when to lean back and how to rotate of the wall faster.  Practice makes perfect.

I'm 5'11, 130 pounds and my name is Marshall.  Hot dang how many Marshall's are there here?  Supposedly less than half of one tenth of one percent of males in the USA are named that, and yet here are three...

youll want to put your foot at least chest level when you go from the jump towards the wall. when your in the air dont take your eyes of the landing area, and tuck your legs tight. (not too tight, this may lead to over flipping...which is painfully emberassing...). make sure you always have a partner with you so they can call for help if your injured, and its best to do them on padding. it wont cushion it much...but a little is better than none.  ;)

With this was able to teach 4 people in one day who have never done a backflip in their lives ( provided I got them to do a crappy standing back tuck first)

The way I learned how to do it:

Just to get used to the motion:
Have two spotters on each side of you when you go up. As you run towards the wall place your arms on their shoulders and leap for the wall about nipple/head height and kick off of it, tilting your head back to spot your landing. You can either tuck your legs, or just swing them, it's your preference. Once you land, do it a few more (dozen :P) times to get used to the motion of the flip.

Now do it:
Same thing, except remove the spotters completely. This time, you will need about twice as much confidence though, as this skill can kind of freak you out if you're still not real used to it. Run casually up towards the wall and place your foot on the wall as stated above. Swing your arms and head back and spot your landing while either tucking or bringing your legs over with you and land it. You will probably land on all fours the first few times, but it gets better with more repetitions.

Some of this has probably been said before. Sorry if it has.
