Parkour helps overcoming obstacles in real life situations, not only physically but mentally as well. Will we ever use what we learned physically effectively? Most likely will not, but you never know. Why do I personally train Parkour? Its fun, something you have to dedicate yourself too. I love to move, And allowing me to move better in the environment also helps In other situations be It Another art form or (like mentioned before) mentally overcoming obstacles by thinking outside of the box.

Most people have the view on us that we are dangerous, or reckless, but that's not the case at all. If everyone would take the time to understand what parkour is and why we do it, (everyone has there own different views) maybe they would see how safe and great of an opportunity it is for them to start training themselves.

Well, yes. I don't see recklessness as parkour, but more as someone trying to do "stunts or tricks" to gain popularity and for strictly showing off. This is not what parkour is about, and I wont consider this along the same line as parkour.

Thumbs up!
I started as a form of fitness.  After all running by itself is a bit boring, so to cut a long story short I added things to running like Kong vaults etc.
It was only after I started training that I discovered the benefits that Bryan points out; by being fully commited when you vault a low wall or a park bench, you may have fear, but when you conquer the fear and complete the vault...The self grattitude is awesome :) And you feel better and more confident about stuff in normal life situations.

Because it's fun as hell! And this:

Especially since most of us are self-taught; Parkour really helps us see what obstacles (no pun intended :P) can be overcome if we just set our minds to it.
Warning:  Limits in mind are further than they appear.

Is it further...or farther...?

I wish my girlfriend would grasp this. Although, i had her climb a wall the other day that was taller then her, she felt pretty good about herself after :)

then she attempted a monkey vault and hit her shin, lol.

Haha! Nice :P At least your girlfriend has the balls (:P) to try a monkey vault xD

For some reason most people seem to have a problem with kongs/monkeys early on.

Exactly!  I am most certainly self taught, although I wish I lived near that urban evolution place, I would certainly train there regurlarly...

Unfortunately I am temporarily out of upper body training/conditioning through having a sprained shoulder.  And while I still go running 4 or 5 times a week and practice balancing, I really miss kong-ing over fences and the like.  Also I am dreading how much form I have lost when I eventually start doing muscle ups and wall climbs again!

Thats why I practice, I must have the bug :)
