Lynx's training log: Cat like reflexes
« on: June 18, 2012, 01:38:35 PM »
Hey guys and gals,
This is my new training journal. I hope to actually make progress with this one and keep it up for longer then a week. My goal is to log my training sessions for a year... or at least until the APK trainer certification is held in San Antonio :) I've been messing around w/ parkour for nearly 5 years now..but never for long periods of time due to schedule, wife/kid, or just purely being a lazy bastard lol.

So, to start things off right, here is my 1st workout: Back to Basics!

- Start with an APK warmupto get the blood pumping

- 3x10 sets of roll training from different heights

- 3x5 precision jumps from different distances

- End with some light parkour and a stretch

I look forward to getting stronger and more confident in my training where I can push the limits of my mind and body. I hope to one day open up my own parkour gym near the DFW area and will look to this log as motivation. Thanks again guys. Any feedback is appreciated :)

SO I thought I posted this yesterday but apparently it sat on my labtop till this morning haha.

Anywho...

I practiced more roll training today as well as some quadrapedal movements. I did 3x10 roll training and 3x25meter on the quadrapdal. I also did some arm hangs and held them at a 90 degree angle for 20 seconds to improve grip. Then I finished off with some light parkour and a stretch!

I'll f/u later today with todays workout!

Thanks for the encouragement Ev!

Yesterday I actually did some weight lifting. I'll be doing this more for my legs to gain more strength and explosion power. But yesterday I worked bi's and tri's for a quick little 30 min workout. I received my brand new black feiyues in yesterday and got to mess around with them for a bit. Love em! I practiced some more precision landings and did some light parkour.

Today is my mother's bday so it's gonna be an off day. I'll be back tomorrow with more of a progressive workout!

Did some more weight lifting today:

Worked heavy on the shoulders and some light back excersises for about 45 min and later on today I'm gonna practice some dash vaults on either arm...more so on my right arm since thats my weaker vaulting arm... But i'm right handed.. always found that odd.

Anywho, I'll finish with some parkour and a stretch

Happy Friday everyone!

Morning everyone!

Today is gonna be a good day. My back is a little stiff, but other then that, things look good.

I'm gonna do a warmup today that consists of a half mile fast jog and then 3 rounds of: 10 pushups, 10 situps, 10 air squats, and 10 pullups. (Since my pullups are my weakest, I may have to subsitute some of them as jumping pullups)

I'm still gonna work on my rolls, so I plan to do a couple sets of that and then I just wanna parkour. Get the creative juices going and create some good flow. It's gonna be hot as balls today so at least I got that to look foward too  :P

Hope everyone has a good weekend!

Yesterday 06-24-12:

I practiced my gap jump/broad jump and did a couple rounds of that...got up to about an 8 foot standstill broad jump which I found rather taxing after about 2 rounds of 5. My favorite gap was a sprinting headstart over a 6 foot stair gap and over a tall bush to land and roll. I did this only twice because the actual drop from midair flgiht is a good 9ft or so and I was exhausted from the previous gap/broad jumps.

Today I'm hitting the weights on my lower body so prolly not much parkour today. I am however gonna run when I get home to loosen up my leg muslces or else.... theyz gonna be REAL sore. Later guys!

Well I ran a little yesterday, but to be honest... My legs were really sore. Can't really fight off father time on that one. It's been sometime since I've worked out my legs like that, but I know that it will only help me in the end.

My legs are still sore today too lol but I'm gonna fight threw it. Today is another arm workout for strength and then going to hit up a new spot I found with a GREAT amount of potential. I'm really, really stoked about this new spot and will let you guys know how truly awesome it is!

I'm gonna focus on rolls again cuz you can never practice that enough and while I'm at it add in some silent landing practice for my parkour workout. I'll finish up with a good run threw and a stretch.

OH! I'm going to swim a little to loosen up my body after my workout as well. Anywho, happy training guys and gals.

MAN...

The spot I was at yesterday was truly badass. The best part is, is I've barely scratched the surface of this place. There's so much to explore!!!

I can't wait to get a small following of fellow traceurs in my area to conqure this place with me. I'd love to see the creativity of other's and see what how they decide to leave their mark :)

Anyways, I pushed it pretty hard yesterday and built up some confidence for sure. I had one lady eye me the whole time I was training... so I'm glad I didn't make myself look like a fool, lol. I ran threw a little circuit about 4 times  before I dinged my knee on a  set of rails I was trying to get over. It was a vertical jump up to the rails and I ended up hitting the outside of my knee cap... hurt like a mofo later, but I iced it when I got home. I was definitely disappointed cuz I could have easily gone for another 30-45 min...

Now I know how to approach those rails next time. And that, ladies and gents, is why we practice lol.

Today I'm gonna do some upperbody stuff since my knees a little sore or I'll prolly end up doing the APK WOD focusing on core.... Thanks APK! :)

I'm excited to go back to this spot in the next couple of days though, which I'm dubbing T-BACE: " The Best Apartment Complex Ever".

Happy Training everyone,

Hey guys,

Yesterday my knee felt a little better so I ran some drills. I mostly practiced on my cat leaps and grabs but also on my broad jump. There's a spot I go to frequently where I can clear about an 8 foot gap with a foot in a half drop...so nothing too crazy. But for some reason I psyched myself out and barely got one jump off... weird cuz I've nailed it on a number of occasions. So mental note: practice more broad jumps to gain more confidence!

I can feel all the calluses forming on my hands, which is good, but I need to work on the cat leaps/grabs for sure. I'm at about 190lbs now at 6'2...so I've pretty much maintained my weight since starting training again. At this point I don't care how much I weigh, I'm just trying to keep consistency with my workouts and knowing they should speak for themselves.

Today I'm gonna practice strictly quadrupedal movements... I'm just waiting for the blazing sun to set a little bit lol

Happy training everyone,

Lynx

Hola,

Today I'm hitting up chest at the YMCA with my buddy, Warren. He's been my weight training partner since I started training and he's going to be joining me in my parkour endeavors :)

As far as I know, we're hitting chest pretty hard today so I probably wont do much after that. Once the sun goes down a little bit I'll prolly go practice more roll training, since you can't over practice that lol

Happy training guys,

Change of plans for today...

Decided not to hit up the gym and go for a nice run. My lil bro came over and I was showing him all my spots I work out at and got tons more confident with him there... to be fair though, I do not like training by myself.

I found some new paths that I hadn't seen before which was awesome. It was, all in all, a good run threw. Garritt, my lil bro, broke his collarbone a while back and is literally like 2 weeks away from being cleared, so he took it easy... Though he did show off his uncanny ability to do some crazy flips, lol. And that was him taking it easy :)

I wish he didn't live 30 min away, he would be wicked to train with. He's only 17 and has a gymnastics background, so I could def learn some stuff from him.

I know whenever I open my own gym, Garriit will be a staple to helping me teach others!

Anyway, had a blast today and I hit legs tomorrow so.....

Happy training everyone,

Lynx

Hey everyone,

Today I ran some more and went back to the new spots I found. I was training for a about 45 min or so and felt great. I worked on my jumping and climbing overall with a good round of precision landings. Parkour+ Texas afternoon heat= major sweating, lol.

I found a new inspiration to my training....

It will be dubbed as, " Lynx's Scout training". It would be a similar type of training any of the assassins in AC would go threw. Lots of climbing/bouldering and stealth. There's an indoor rock climbing gym by me that has a good size bouldering area that I plan to try and use on a regular basis. This will be one of my main focal points from here on out :)

I got the idea for a "Scout" style workout program for a story I came up with. It would involve a Scout and the wicked awesome Assassin's Armor from darkknightarmoury.com. Between the armor, the hood, and the dual wield possibilities... Golden!

http://www.darkknightarmoury.com/p-15593-assassins-armor.aspx

Anywho...

Tomorrow I'll prolly go hit up the bouldering wall to start my new journey :)

Happy training everyone,

Lynx

Hey everyone!

Haven't posted in a couple days but definitely still hitting it hard! I haven't got to hit up the bouldering wall yet... I'm actually not sure when I will.... Oh well back to conventional weight training and parkour :)

Tuesday I worked bi's and blasted them pretty good, then went and saw Spiderman that night... AWESOME! Can't wait to see it again!

The 4th I spent all day on the lake playing at least 6 competitive games of sand volleyball, swing from a trapeze out into the water practicing flips and body control, and then of course running off the 1 story deck and seeing how far I can jump before I hit the water. After 9 hrs of doing this, I was, to say the least, exhausted!

Yesterday my buddy Warren and I focused on tri's and blasted them good as well. The weight training has definitely started paying off

Today we are doing some heavy back and light shoulders- My goal with workoing out my back is to be able to complete 3 sets of 10 pullups by Summer's end!

Anywho, Happy training everyone!

Hey guys,

Back on the site posting, its been a while but I have in fact been training this whole time :)

Thanks for the post of encouragement there MoMo!

Over the last couple weeks, I've been hitting the weights hard and doing alot of natural movement, so it was pretty badass to come back to the main page and see an article on MovNat :)

My inspiration for starting the natural movement happened a couple weeks ago when my son and I sat down and watched Tarzan. He had never seen it, and I still think its one of the better disney movies lol. Watching Tarzan move around i.e swim, climb, jump, balance, defend..all the essentials associated with Natural Movement completely set a fire to me and I wanted to start training completely different!

It's been a lot of fun so far, and I look forward to getting more in tune with my natural side.

Right now I've maintained around 192lbs which means I'm pretty much losing the fat. I don't care about being HUGE, so dropping weight is expected... I figured after all was said and done, I would be a solid 185, maybe 190. I have gained major strength my 1st month back to weight lifting, so everything is going great at the moment!

Good to be back posting and thanks again for the encouragement everyone!

Happy Training!

Hey guys,

Over the weekend I rested up a bit, did some swimming..but nothing worth posting about.

Yesterday we hit chest and had a great workout...still a tad sore, but nothing I can't manage :)

Today we are lifting heavy back and light biceps. Gonna work on some weighted pull-ups-- as the weighted dips and chin ups are hella hard lol.

Since I'll be by myself after work for a while, I'm gonna go check out the little forrest area behind my apartment complex and see if I can discover another cool training ground! I hope to mess around with at least 5 of the 10 essentials that go into George Herbet's Natural Method; Walking, Running, Climbing, Jumping, and balancing. My worry is snakes and other Texas creatures that dwell in the forrest so my 1st go round might not be so awesome haha. I also plan to do a couple laps in the pool later for a cardio/stretch...gotta love swimming! So make that 6 out of 10 essentials :)

I know I'm not training a ton right now in parkour, but the MovNat thing will be my replacement for the time being, especially getting comfortable with going barefoot. The weight lifting has taken over because of what I wanna do for Halloween....

Yes I know its over 3 months away...BUT.. with my costume, I need a little bulk. Grand prize up at my work is $500!!

Any way, Happy Training everyone

Hey everyone,

So, yesterday, I did a bunch of resting workouts. Throughout the day I would randomly drop down and do pushups. They ranged anywhere from 10-40. I practiced different veriations of the push up, i.e wide, close, staggared, normal..

Then I did 2 sets of 10 for L and R arms using the kettlebell swing.

There wasn't a lot going on since I hit the weightroom REALLY hard M-F... Today is a heavy tricep workout mixed in with some ab blasting execises including one of my favorite moves, the Pike!

I know I still need to work on pullups and my buddy and I are using a weight belt so we can add some weighted exercises to normal body weight stuff like dips, chin ups, pullups, push ups...its been great in really packing on strength to an already tough movement. I also want to increase my broad jump from 8'5" to 9 ft by the end of August :)

I weighed myself the other day, and in 4 weeks of weight training, I'm up to 198lbs, which means I've gained about 5lbs...no telling what my BW% is at since the last week is when I noticed my weight gain... I hope to be around 5-8% on Halloween :)

Happy training everyone,

Lynx
