Running precisions vs precisions
« on: May 11, 2012, 02:34:18 PM »
I've just been starting to train running precisions. It might sounds stupid, but at first I thought running up into a jump is going to be a "miracle pill" that makes you jump further.

So I tried to running and then jump with both feet but it doesn't make any physical sense. So I youtube it, found out that running precisions are really nothing more than a glorified stride that you only use one leg for the jump. So maybe I was a little disappointed.

Right now I can do an 8 feet precision. Is there any tips and techniques on longer precisions and running jumps? I know that olympic long jump athletes can frequently go above 20 feet, but then again they don't train landing on small surfaces

The way I see it, in a running jump you just do a one-footed precision. Jump off the leg that's on the ground and bring your other knee up (as in a precision jump), then bring them together around mid-air to landing.

But yeah I think it sort of is a miracle pill hahaha

Oh yeah, running gets you a lot farther. My standing jump off the ground is 8.5ft(precisions are around 10ft as I actually push off the object) and my running jump is around 14-15ft.

Can you describe what you did during the running jump?

Running precision is how I sprained my ankle. :P But I hadn't trained for them lately.

Anyway, yeah, running precisions are kinda a magic pill for distance. You just need a clear understanding of technique.
1-Run fast
2- On your last step (punch leg) have your leg a little bent when in hits the spot you're gonna jump
3-Shoulder and arms back, chest forward
4-same time. Swing arms forward. And punch that step UP AND Forward.  Not just forward
5-Fly
6- Bring your feet together in front of you with ankles bent forward
7-stick your landing on the balls of your feet.
I can hit about 11-14 feet this way

So you bent THEN punch with only ONE leg?

So, yeah I was kinda like "Running has to somehow help". So I tried long jumps on the sand today. Did get some better distance, the other day it was just mental block try to jump from a edge to an edge. Totally forgot about using the arms though. Gonna try your tips out later. So thanks, can't find a real tutorial for running jumps any where!

Yup, it's basically a long jump except you have to stick it! Lol, really it's a lot like a normal precision in the way that you use your arms and knees to get into the air, and you land it the same way.

Even long jump by itself is hard lol. I got a hole in my shoe but got too busy to get a new pair, and I've been using the legs a lot recently, so ended up with shin pains and such, even on track sand :P

If your legs hurt take a rest day. You don't want to over stress the muscles, some pretty crappy things can happen thet way.

I did the running precision the way everyone has been saying.
