Sprained my ankle
« on: May 07, 2012, 06:52:46 AM »
Right Ankle has a light sprain I think. Haven't been to DR.
Happened Thursday night
I can move my toes and I can rotate and turn my ankle every direction, but only a VERY little bit.
I can press up and down against pressure. I can press left and right but it doesn't feel great.
Swollen like a softball though. Can't really put pressure on it

How it happened: Running Jump from one curb to another (Maybe 8 feet, nothing special) punched off of left leg and landed a bit to far foward on right. Foot went forward and hit ground. Turned my ankle in toward my left ankle,

I've been icing for about 30 minutes every few hours. Sitting it in hot water for about 20 minutes every few hours. Kept elavated most of the weekend and used compress every few hours (R.I.C.E.)

Ice for about 10-15 every couple hours... 30 minutes too long. Does heat make it better or worse? If worse, don't use the heat.

Softball swollen definitely hit up some anti-inflams. Compression is of course good. Avoid aggravating it.

Mobility work is good as long as it doesn't make the pain worse, and especially good if it makes it a bit better.

Use self massage to pull swelling up from ankle toward your heart

Yeah, my friend told me about the over icing last night. Slows blood flow and white blood cells? Lesson learned

The heat feels amazing and helps alot with mobility. I've been doing the ABC's every other hour and the massage part... it's still a bit tender, but I'll try later after the ice or heat.

As for the Anti inflamatory. I had a bunch of Garlic Spinach in Olive oil last night which is apparently a good anti-inflam. Any other good Anti-inflam foods or meds (non-prescription)

Slightly un-related. Hoping around on 1 foot is a hell of a workout. Calve, Shin, Ankle, Quad, Hammy, Abs, Groin. All getting worked, when I'm better I will be adding this to my daily mobility work

Don't overdo it.... easy to build imbalances when you're injured
