Slang used to describe an individual new to many things, parkour amongst them.

Though if someone calls me noob, I am not generally effected, but I see this as a derogatory statement only.  A better term for a beginner would be Novice.

In my standpoint and by seeing how the word "noob" has been used all the time, is such a term as an insult to someone for their lack of knowledge or understanding, or in some cases for having a different Point of View.

i know it sounds the same, but i think that 'newb' is a better term.

noob has more stigma and '1337' ness attatched to it.

newb has the word 'new' in it, and thus implies someone who is new, a new, or newb.

less derogatory i think.

It does matter in the presentation of the word, this I understand.  So I can see that in some cases calling someone "Newb" can even be meant with endearment.  Such as "Hey here is my little brother Jimmy, he is a newb at ______ but he'll be kicking ass soon"

and then there is  "You dont know what  ______ is?  you are a newb!"  you get the idea   ;D

But I understand what yer getting at also.

Context is always the turning point.  But Newb is better.

to me a noob is an ignorant newcomer 'parkour is what you make it, parkour is freedom of movement, david does flips so why does he got to do them in parkour, no your wrong because this is the case, he clearly flips while the word parkour is said in that article...'

I have very very little respect for those kinds of people, to me newbs on the other hand are newcomers, who are sitting there with open ears and listening, learning, asking questions and not looking to be right, but to be more educated. I like those kind of people a lot (basically 'caus I really hate ignorance...)
