Weight training alongside parkour always benefits, it never takes away.

This has been an issue that I've dealt with (I am sure we all have dealt with at some point/throughout) since I began in '08.

I really don't care what others seem to do. It does seem that the majority of the parkour community is focused on tricking, but that is just my opinion based on my own experience.

Just like, it seems that most of the parkour community is ranged from 14-20 - the largest amount being high school students. Again, my personal experience.

So, I stick with my own personal design of parkour, in which I focus my energy in conditioning and technique advancements with hints of acrobatics here and there to keep things spunky.
That in mind, 90% of the people I meet who are interested in learning parkour are looking to learn how to do "flips off of crap". Meh.

It is what it is.

NOTE:    Like it was stated previously, Original Poster is not able to ban himself. It was a venting rant that spurred a topic that has been affecting traceurs since Parkour became a community, me thinks.

cheers

Parkour boils down to a bunch of stridey, precision, kong type movement, and freerunning has just become all about flips flips flips and more flips. The more flips you can do the better.
Sooner or later you just realize how much bullshit it all really is. Or you don't. When I first started I was a traceur/ freerunner, then later on I was just a traceur, then I realized I was more of a freerunner, then I realized I'm neither because I just don't give a shit what other people believe and I can just call my style of movement whatever I want.  I think teg realized this when he came up with rage froobling.

David belle is full of shit! Ilabaca is full of shit! Apk is full of shit! I'm full of shit! Everybody thinks they know the right way to go about moving when in reality were all just a bunch of dumb f#cking monkeys trying to be top monkey. I mean, amirite?

Movement is like music. You play it. You recite it. You love it. You hate it. You create it. Im  oging to preov to myself tghat mi ma  a good typer and I acan type reeally fast and not give a f#ck about what happens and ai can just keep going going nogingign gogung gojngoguoing Banned.

Depends.

Parkour was never about movements in the beginning. It was about being a Yamakasi. Vaults, jumps and fluid movements - was something that came much later. In the beginning it was all about being strong and following certain values, and this is, imo, what defines it. If you didn't do this you weren't considered as a Yamakasi. Its origianally a training method with values not just movements. Movements have existed since pre-history.

EDIT:

Oh, I came to think about this video where Dan explains it quite good. Especially with all this freerunning vs parkour crap, and the misconception that freerunning is acrobatics brought outdoors, or that parkour simply is defined by movements and movements only.

People should just respect each other and realize that we all have differences.

I used to get mad about the same stuff, but the people who only get into parkour/freerunning for flips or argue crazy stuff don't usually last long.

People who care about parkour for what it is, and actually want to improve themselves and those around them stick around.

Parkour can stay pure in your own heart.  That is all you can control.  If the whole world turns parkour into something else, it doesn't matter, because you can keep your own parkour in your heart.

Everyone wants something different from parkour.  We have to respect that.

Awesome. 100% Agree.
After surprising a coworker he said something about me "sneaking around," this was my response to him: "I'm not being sneaky, i'm just standing here eating my sandwich, when I am sneaking you'll know it.
Wait..."

I just saw on your tag, Kyle that you mention being a student of a school in St. George. I just moved to St. George like 2 months ago. Are you living there?
