Kong Tutorial

Thanks! I'm a total newbie and I've been messing with monkey stalls and looking for a smaller step towards a kong. I know I won't catch my feet on the near edge of the table. That's no problem. I'm afraid I'll end up doing one of two things: 1. catch my feet on the far side of the table, or the bench, as I attempt to get my feet under me, or 2. keep my butt high over the table and faceplant because I don't get my legs under me even if I tuck my knees at the end. Is the second one a really hard mistake to make, as long as I don't completely miss the table with my hands?

i wish i could say that wont happen but its a possibility, if you have the dive to your hands down, then you should focus on bringing your knees to your chest while at the same time lifting your chest to the sky, oh and dont try to stall out on your hands, as soon as your feel your momentum coming forward push back with your hands as hard as you can, and ideally you want your heels higher than your hands for now, but eventually you want your heels above your elbows, and for me i like to get my heels above my shoulders during the dive to your hands, but im super comfortable with kongs so dont worry about that right now. good luck man let me know if it helps

i have done this numerous times and normally your momentum will still carry you through. on that long kong on the video when we were first trying it we caught them nearly every time.

Its not really a case of getting your legs under with the kong that's more important with the kash. But Anthony's advice is great so listen to that :)

Could I mention something? nice tutorial!!!

The step off/feet placement of the kong is quite important for getting your kongs farther when you land.

2 types of feet placement

1 is the punch, which is mainly used to kong on a obstacle quite tall for your comfort level for kongs.
A "punch" to all beginners to Parkour with no gymnastic expieriece, is where you have your feet together, and you "punch" the ground. The downside to this is you lose some momentum. What you do is when you run up, do a little skip with whatever leg you choose, punch, and then go into the long.

2 is what I call, spread foot. This foot placement is what he did in the video. When your in the spread foot placementwhat you want to do is place your hands on the obstacle and right when you do that, bring your back leg up while Pushing forward with your hands a little. then bring your other leg up to meet the back leg, while then applying more push to the hands.

You should then be in sortve a handstand position  but your body should be in a 140-160 degree position.

You can use this kong as a starter to Double kongs, far kong precisions, and basically any kong where you want to travel father. Downside is your hips won't be able to meet tall objects you want to kong.

All these foot placements require conditioning if you want to go farther, or kong a farther object.
