Wanting to move near a big parkour community. Suggestions?
« on: February 06, 2012, 11:29:40 PM »
I'm from Dallas Texas, and I enjoy the pk community here, but I've also wanted to expand my horizons by moving to a new area, but only if there is a decent community to join.

What would be the most popular or highly populated parkour communities out there? I feel like the obvious answers would be New York or London.

My boyfriend and I want a lifestyle focused around parkour (and school for me). What are the best places to live a parkour lifestyle? English speaking areas would be preferred. :)

Less expensive places an San Francisco would be florida, north Carolina (triangle area raleigh durham chapel hill etc.) upstate new York (Rochester has their own gym I believe) virginia near dc or virginia tech, dc, Maryland near dc, philly, boston.  Also be aware that the tracer house will be opening in San Antonio this year...
The only other pictures i could find of Cocaine Badger on google images were hosted on this wierd site about furries and smoking weed, so...

That video was like if Jesus walked into my room, hugged me, baked me a cake, and then left in Ron Weasley's flying car.

Any metroploitan area where it doesn't snow at least 99.9% of the time. Not Milwaukee.

Cool. All of those suggestions help.

I wouldn't mind staying in texas cause of all the major cities having pk communities, and Dallas's community is finally growing so there is room to grow.

Although, part of me wouldn't mind to totally uproot and go to London if there were a bunch of opportunities to parkour freely without as many liability and social issues.

Maybe I should ask what a areas are most parkour friendly, because I feel like Texas (at least Dallas) is not very open to traceurs with all the liability and limited places to practice.

So what would the most friendly areas be and best places to practice and learn?

Besides La Tech which I'm currently working with the university police to see if we could meet a middle ground to work with. They ask all the time if there is a gym or a park(s) to train which there are, but it's this southern mentality that makes the sport tend to die out in the south other than Texas, NC, and FL. If you don't hunt in LA then you are weird.  :-\

I agree. I'm about 4-5 hrs away in Louisiana (Ruston) and it's hard to openly train without some sort of back lash. The weather is not uniform pattern but it's nice and quiet.  I'm thinking Southern Cal, FL, or Texas to move to after college.

So what would the most friendly areas be and best places to practice and learn?

I think Colorado (denver/colorado springs) is probably the best place to be.
Here in Chicago we have a very large community, but honestly only about 1/20 of us are actually really motivated to get better. Also we need to train in gyms during the winter or snowboard, because we don't shrug off the cold, we take advantage of it.

I like Tricking and Free Running, i don't think i actually do parkour, because i do it for fun and self expression, which would change the term to free running.

Wherever Shade Zlat, Oleg Vorslav, Erik Mukhametshin, Team Jiyo, and Sonny are from. Seems to be the Poland/Latvia/Denmark/Russia/Belarus area. Denmark has government sponsored PK parks and there's so many old Soviet-era playgrounds and buildings around that it's a universal hotspot.
