History of Parkour - a Quote
« on: March 07, 2007, 10:38:00 AM »
I have to start with the disclaimer that APK respectfully asks you to refrain from religious or political conversations. There's plenty to talk about that people do agree on, and the basis for this site is Parkour and Freerunning, not religion or politics.

That being said, this quote was pointed out by one of our members while reading the Bible. It's from the book of Joel Chapter 2 Verse 9.

"They shall enter into the city: they shall run upon the wall, they
shall climb up the houses, they shall come in at the windows"

Pretty intertesting to see how far back the idea of running up walls goes :)

Again, please let this be a conversation about history, not religion.

Haha I would be interested in knowing what context that is in.

There's beginning of the chapter, which seems to be talking about the Army of God.  The first half seems to be very "holy crap that army is bad ass."

From what I've read the context seems to be a great army tearing its way through the land, and as it makes its way into a city, it stops, and God basically says, "My army is hear to destroy, but even now I say repent and follow me."

Hope I didn't take it to far into religion.  Just trying to explain the context of the verse.

And I have to agree, it's pretty cool to see that so far in history.
EDIT: what's next? Cave paintings of stick figures doing kongs?

Vietnamese kung fu training has long held a tradition very similar to Parkour, but the idea was to be able to either make distance from your opponent quickly (so as to find a hiding spot and ambush) or to be able to close in on your opponent quickly.

Tongue-in-cheek, my friend. :) :) Though I'd like to think our pursuits of consistent personal-growth & improvement, and no-limits movement are "higher" purposes. hehe.
