HAHAH, AWESOME
« on: February 20, 2007, 04:19:28 PM »
Ok, so me and my bro was out training today right. We were at this ice ring thing. We were doing basics you know then a bunch of skaters came. They were doing there thing and then some guy came over and called police and kicked the skaters off. I was wondering if he was gonna kick us off for jumping climbing all over there things plus if he thought we was with the skaters. Well he made the skaters leave and then i was like, do we leave? and he looked at me and was like, i hate skaters, and im like yea...so then we started doin kong to precisions and he just smiled and let us be. hahahaha awesome. he kicked the skaters but not the traceurs. lol

We do have to remember that skateboarding culture used to be the same as Parkour is today.  I think we should maintain our respect for it, because there are those out there that still maintain the same mentality.

no no, no respect for these guys. they were cussing out the guy that kicked him and refused to leave for a bit. I got respect for the real skateboarders. The guys i see on Xgames. and the skater kids that do respect people and property. But these punks. no respect. They deserved to get kicked.

The guys in the X-games are the ones who changed skateboarding culture from its original roots to something that most of the original skateboarders consider extremely profane.  If these guys weren't respectful, then yeah, they deserve to get kicked out.  But I'd hesitate to call the X-gamers "real skateboarders."

Do not diss skateboarders in general. Some of them are very cool fellows. However you have free will to judge who's a nice, and philisophical skateboarder, and who's not. Some skateboarders just irk me. However i have met some very philisophical, and thoughtful,  skateboarders.

I have had this debate before. Any kind of punk who is rebellious just for the sake of it is stupid. Many skateboarders have the jackass mentality and skate cause tey think its cool or because they like the image. I have only met one skateboarder at my school that I really respect because he actually likes skating.

Let's try to keep parkour from this fate.

Personally I think your story would have been better if you were only happy that you were allowed to stay, and not so worried about putting others down. If poeple doing parkour are seen as hating skaters (or any other specific group) then what makes parkour be any better?

i think the reason most skateboarders act like that is because they think they should because they do skateboard. you gotta look that part, that bull. like m2 said, we gotta keep PK from this fate. so lets just try to keep a cool head when the heat asks you to leave and just find another spot.

what are you guys talking about? they never asked us to leave. They said we could stay. They kicked the skaters cause no one likes them. There all loud, yell profanity and tear up the environment. Im doing an awesome job at keeping parkour from becoming like what skateboarding is looked at today. I proved it yesterday. When they kicked the skaters and said we could stay. they liked us. Were nice, we train safe, don't destroy things. And if were ask to leave we do leave peacefully. Cops around downtown know us and like us. Owners of the buildings we train on know us and like us.
if you ask me, i think im doing a good job at keeping parkour in the eyes of the people. Something positive.

hmmm. i was talking with a skater on monday while practiceing at a local park and when i told him i did parkour he was curious and then i said freerunning and he imideatly thought of roofs and as i explained the difference and that most practitioners acctually frown upon the isolated jumping and rooftops usage he began to come around and got right were i wanted his view point to be...and i quote... "so it's like a martial art?"...BOO-YAHH! exactly

yea, im negative toward the skaters that have bad aditudes, vandalize, start problems cuzz at people. old people allot. Those are the skaters i hate. The ones that when ask to leave called the black guy a ....not gonna say but u know. I know all of em are not like that. But all the skaters around here are like that. I've lived in 4 different districts in des moines and 98 percent of the skaters were asses.

Surfers aren't just surfers, Riders aren't just riders, traceurs aren't just traceurs, and Skaters aren't just skaters. Respect for individuals includes remembering that they are an individual. Disrespect for them is no different.

Pretty kool story,  Just be shure not to turn into them by sinking to their level.  You do this by making generalizations, and being disrespectful of other people.  Rember the good in all people.  I know its not always easy.

What makes me sad is that, at least in where I'm from, how the cops take no time to differentiate between skaters who are out to land huge tricks and will probably end up hurting themself or damaging something, and the skaters who are just looking for a fun, interesting way to get around town. They just slap on the maximum penalty, 'cause they have nothing better to do than hunt down skaters and traceurs or all types.  :'(
