Meditation and Parkour
« on: December 15, 2011, 07:56:46 PM »
So ive recently been meditating and I must say that it helps with clearing my mind before I am about to attempt something I have a fear of. I sit down, close my eyes, take deep inhales and exhales, and take five minutes to clear my mind and focus on what I am about to attempt. Continually repeating the visions of my task until It feels as if Ive already done it. I know this may not make sense to some, but does anyone else do this? I found that it helped me greatly before attempting my first kong vault(Which I was terrified of trying) I didn't get it perfectly, but I also didn't slam my face into the picnic table(which was my biggest fear)

(Off-topic)
I also meditate before going to bed, but that is mainly due to my insomnia.

So to sum up, who else meditates to clear their fears and visualize overcoming their obstacle?

I find that it helps me a lot in completely focusing in on what I need to do. I can definitely see it helping you in your martial arts as well. Thanks for your input!

I've always seen meditation as a key part of any activity. If you cant put yourself 100% into any action then that action will never be as strong or perfect as it could be. If you have voices of fear or doubt or even ego, that's energy not focused on the moment, that one action.

Meditating regularly is just like working out. The more you use a strength the quicker you can call upon it, so if you meditate a little in the morning and night and maybe just clear your head and breath through out the day, the easier it is to call upon the clearness of your mind when you really need it.

As well. I like what you said about visualizing yourself doing something so many times you feel like you really have and now its kinda old news. I do the same thing and I used to do that with talking to women
David Belle once robbed a bank and left all the money on the Roof. He just wanted to prove that he could overcome any "Vault"..

I've been doing this for quite a while now, as well. I find that before I try anything difficult, it's beneficial to get a good, deep inhale/exhale and then commit to the movement.

When I attempt something a bit further out of my comfort zone than I would like but know I can do I have to make a choice to commit. Once I have committed I visualize the movement, close my eyes, take a deep breath, exhale, clear my mind and just focus on the movement in the moment. Not ahead or thinking how I messed up but just focused on the B point and the expression along the way. I also meditate every so often. Mediation helps. Clearing your mind but being mindful in the moment.
