Ian's 365 October 12, 2011 - 2012
« on: October 12, 2011, 07:32:32 AM »
Today is my birthday and I have turned 25. I am still in my first year of training and I plan on continuing my training for many years to come!

I wanted to track my progress for a year so what better way to do that then by starting a 365 program on my birthday, ending on... my birthday!

Once I find the cable for my camera, I will be posting plenty of video footage as well as posting in this forum. Can't wait for my day to begin!

1 hour of training a day, everyday, for 365 days.

-Ian

Day 1: Spent 6 hours at the gym. Worked on some big precisions and bounds as well as flat ground flips off the floor.
Most of all I was working on some new palm spins and flow pieces and a sweet new flashy roll.

Day 2 (Today): Today will be a light work out day, work on flexibility, and maybe play around at the park a bit.

Tomorrow I leave for LA to go to the Tempest Freerunning Academy!

Been in Cali the last few days training with some team members. Hit up a park, and a few buildings. We capped the day off by going to the tempest free running academy and got to meet Diddy, Shane Daniels, and victor Lopez.

(days 3 & 4)

Hitup the park for 2 hours, and everywhere else for about 2 additional hours, and tempest for 3.

Day 5

Before we left California we hit up a pretty awesome park early morning. Grass and sand was very wet so it made for some difficult training but I put together some decent runs with my friends. I got to get used to putting together more runs so I work on my strides and footwork better.

Also work on my punch fronts a bit and nursed my torn calluses.

Day 6

Went to both of my gyms. The first gym I drilled bounds and a flashy little roll. Didn't stray too much from those items the whole time.
At the other gym I focused on bar work since going to Tempest opened up my eyes to how important it is and how badly I need to work on it. Worked on pull ups, muscles ups, kip ups, hip circles and then the rest of the team and I got together, set up some blocks, and worked on flow the rest of the night as a team.

Day 7

Conditioned at my gym and worked on bar work. After my visit to Tempest I realized how important bar work is and how bad I am at it. Got my pull over and worked on my muscle ups and kip ups again.

LOTS OF DIPS! Sweaty day.

Day 8

Both gyms tonight. Trained for 6 hours about. No way I can keep up that kind of training. Working lots of KPs, precisions, and flow. Also, continued to work on rails as well. Got my pull over consistently and would have gotten my muscle ups had my body not wanted to just go to sleep. =P

Also worked on my kip up straight out of a roll.

That about sums up my general movements for the night. Good night APK world.

Day 9

Light training day. Went to the park, practiced more bar work. Muscle ups, pull overs, etc, but my hands are still a bit sore from the last few days. Then I hit up a couple of the work out stations at the park, more dips, push-ups, and some balance training. Hopefully my legs recover quickly because I am already feeling restless!

Day 9 (Part 2)

Got restless and went to a park I haven't been to in a long time. (Since I first started). Warmed up with some vaults over a table and then moved to MORE dips. Climbed on some stuff for a bit and then ended my night by attempting a precision which I had never been able to make before. Needless to say, I stuck it easy. Always feels good to see good progress. Worth the soreness before work!

Day 10

Went to the gym early yesterday and received some more training on the bars from our head coach. Then, with a little bit of baby steps worked my way up to balancing on the top of the bar and front flipping off at 7 feet. Im not good with heights so this was a great accomplishment for me.

More conditioning again as well. Back, arms and chest are gettin' beaten! haha
Lots of muscle ups, pull ups, dips etc.

Been working on my websters as well, trying to tighten them up a bit before my jam in Vegas. Legs need a bit of a rest. =P

That about sums up my day yesterday. Hopefully today's pizza and parkour jam I'm putting together goes well!

@jimmy - Thanks man! I appreciate it!

Day 11

Pizza and Parkour Jam was AMAZING! So many people turned out! I live in a small town and about 30-40 people showed up for parkour and many more just to watch. No cops, no injuries, no falls. Perfect day!

The jam started at 3 and we went til just before 7, and I went out to train early around 1. SOOOOOOOO, in closing; got about 6 hours of hardcore training today.

Took my flips to new heights outside thanks to my training in the gym yesterday. My tallest object so far has been 7 feet in the gym as of yesterday, and today I took my front up to 6 feet outside. Very pleased with the result.

Jammed my heel a bit on a big precision but nothing stopped me today. I gave my hands a break from bars and worked lots of heights on flips, kps, and precisions. A well needed break for my tender little fingers.

Anyways, time to get to work on editing the video of the jam from today. Hopefully, it will be up tomorrow.

Day 12 - Sunday

Legs were pretty tuckered out. Headed to the park behind my house and worked on some precisions, my basic vaults, a pretty flowy roll Im working on and a lot more conditioning of the upper body.

Pretty light day today. I def need to rest. So with my "hour-a-day" knocked out, I think I'll go sleep my soreness away. =P

"See" you all tomorrow!

Day 13 - Monday

Crazy busy day. Built a big bounding rig for one of my gyms so I spent most of the day at the first gym doing that as well as doing the conditioning drills I learned at Tempest.

Spent some of the day with some team mates playing around at a park, work on my fear of rail precisions. Got a little bit better, not much progress there though.

Finally, I went to the second gym where I was determined to beat my fear of a wall flip. Kinda' dumb, I know but I have always been scared of it and I can't help it. I pulled the pit out next to the wall, threw a couple of practice sets before throwing a few attempts landing on the pit. When I felt I was close enough on the pit, I moved it back and tried again without the pit. My first attempt I was spotted and stumbled a bit.

My second real attempt however, went great. Landed pretty open, sloppy obviously, but a solid landing I had not expected. =P

To cap off the night I also worked on a flow combo I have had in my mind for some time, and I nailed it on the tramp. TIME TO TAKE IT TO THE FLOOR!

Big day for me! Very excited. Thanks to my team for sticking through my stupid fears. =D

Day 14 - Tuesday

Went to the park with a friend and taught her some details about increasing your distance on your kong and between her runs I would grab a couple dips on the bars we were training next to. After that, I went to the gym closest to my house, helped teach the youth parkour class and then we sent them home.

Once they elft and the gym started to empty we grabbed part of the floor and practiced some standing flips, as well as a variation on my side flip.

I finished on my day practicing a new flow piece that links 3 palm spins into a back tuck. Hoping to have that perfected soon!

That basically sums up my day! Time for work!

Day 15 - Wednesday

Worked on my leaps over big distances as well as more precision/bounds/running across small objects.

Also continue work on my palm spin flow piece. It was more solid then yesterday but I had a bit of difficulty getting motivated. Exhausted legs and sleepy. =/

Finished off the night with some "imagination land" fun with two knee-high blocks at the gym. We just set them together and worked on some flowy movements and tried to take something simple and do cool things with it.

Decent night. Nothing too crazy but I got in work on a few things I never get to do. Tomorrow is another day!

Day 16 - Thursday

Light conditioning. Trying to give my legs a bit of a rest because I think my over use injuries are coming back. Sharp twinge in my legs. =/

Dips, vaults, bound jogging, pull ups, and a few side flips.

Time to rest for work. Doing the bare minimum today!

Day 17 - Friday

Worked some flow today at the park and really drilled my wall flip at the gym. Some pull ups, and taught some youngsters at the gym pull overs and hip circles as well as my friend a cool new flow piece.

Time to rest. Got a big pk day saturday and sunday!

Day 18 - Saturday

Conquered a bunch of fears today. There was this obstacle I had nerves about for months and I finally beat it. Punch side flipped off it, konged it, and palm spun it. Also, accidently did a tunnel flip outside trying to do a standing side while balancing on this park bench.

Knocked out this obnoxious KP today as well between a park bench and this slippery plastic dinosaur statue we play on.

After our team jam session a few members and I went to the park behind my house to unwind. Of course we couldn't just be at a park and NOT parkour. So we ended up playing on these bars a little bit. More balance, flow, KPs to rails, and basically just a ton of balance, rail based stuff. Trying to get my confidence with those slippery devils up bit. Also accomplished this bound I have been making excuses not to do. When I did it I felt ridiculous because of how easy it was... like most things I'm nervous about before accomplishing them. =P

Great day today! Rest, and then I get to do it again tomorrow!
