Carbs from grains
« on: October 08, 2011, 01:39:52 PM »
All this talk about not eating grains confuses me a bit. Are grains a bad choice because they are bad as in harmful to you, or just bad because there are better sources of carbs, like mass amounts of vegetables, that you can eat to get carbs and other nutrients?

If you start stacking in micronutrients into the equation, grains and breads are "empty" by comparison to fruits and vegetables.  They're filler.

They can be bad as in harmful. Recent studies have suggested gluten sensitivity for 2/3rds of the population or so.

They are also less nutritious than fruits and vegetables.

Which is why we say to avoid them as much as possible. Certainly not healthy or useful to eat.

Ok thank you both! I have been trying to cut out a lot of grains, but it's hard when we eat a lot of pasta.

Citation?  I would be interested in adding that link to my library.
