Gloves: Yay or nay?
« on: September 25, 2011, 10:18:06 AM »
I went out to train yesterday for the first time, and, luckily, the worst injury I sustained was ripped up palms. Nothing I can't deal with, but it's enough of an inconvenience for me to wonder about gloves. If you use gloves, what kind do you use and do you find that they've effected your training or technique at all? Thanks in advance for any suggestions or ideas.

You don't need gloves. Cuts and peels on your palms/hands will strengthen your skin when it heals up.  The only reason to wear gloves is when its really cold or you really care about your hands and want to keep it nice and smooth.  Doing laches with gloves can be bad, its either too slippery or too grippy.

I use gloves when training in the winter here in Oregon. It's too rainy and cold otherwise and it tears at my hands. Sometimes I'll take them off when drilling a technique but I like to have them with me at the very least.

Do not wear gloves, Condition your hands.
Gloves will hinder you in the long run.

As someone has already said, if you're worried about winter training (frost bite, etc.) you can wear gloves.
Avoid them. At all costs. Even if someone puts a gun to your head....mock them and say that it is probably not loaded.
Then take the gloves that they offer and wipe them on your rear and discard them. Then laugh hysterically until you pop a blood vessel in your head and have to be rushed to the emergency room.

But you'll probably turn gay.

If you do get gloves, they should match your purse.

Some of you guys must live in really warm places. Or you're such badasses that you run around in the snow with a wife-beater and thin sweatpants doing flips into snowpiles and shaking the cold off like a boss.

I live in Michigan.

One day in July it is 95 degrees and miserable the next day it is 10 below and snowing like wha?!

Seriously, Michigan is cold most of the year and terrible during winter due to the lake affects. No gloves is best, imho.
