Alpha-Frequency
« on: December 10, 2005, 10:50:18 AM »
The alpha frequency is the strongest current-wise, and the most rhythmic of the four segments of the brain frequency spectrum.  Studies in audio-visual stimulation (AVS) are most often carried out at the alpha frequency.

Editing this video, I tried to do something unique in both the audio and visual.  The sound track is made up entirely of sounds that occurred while training parkour.  Although they are not necessarily synchronized, each sound you hear matches a movement in the video.

Visually I thought it would be beautiful to see the same movement from different angles occur on the screen simultaneously.  You will also see similar movements as well as failed and successful movement juxtaposed.

There is no new footage, so those of you who have been around for a while may have seen some, if not all of it.  Regardless, this new cut is definitely worth viewing.

Enjoy,

Kaos

Awesome man! I had wanted to do a video somehow featuring only "natural" sound from parkour, but didn't think about actually remixing the sounds into a beat! That was quite enjoyable to watch, a nice deviation from the normal parkour video! A well executed experiment!

That was pretty cool. The sound worked well in places, but a little variation in others wouldn't hurt. I liked the editing, especially that reverse angle on the underbar because it looked unbelievable that he went head first, and then you see that it was played backwards. Good parkour too!

nice. you have some good skills but you could clean up a lot. just analyze your techniques with some attention to detail and you can improve most of those little flaws pretty easily.

Man, I love what your doing here, really inspired.

I personally have been studying this kind of thing; neuroaccustical stimulation, for some time now.  I've experimented with using Delta frequency stimuli as a treatment for insomnia.  For those who don't know, Delta frequency is the slowest of the four brainwave frequencies, the brain produces these when it's in its deepest stage of the resting cycle.

It's intersting to see someone trying to apply this concept to parkour.  You'll have to explain the connection though, how does the video utilise this like you where saying?

The beat was a great endeavor, although, I'll admit it, could be taken allot further using more sounds and more frequent patterns, you know layering more together, you could have a whole rhythmic symphony going here.

The video style was really cool to, this is the kind of thing we need more of; people taking an real experimental artistic angle to parkour filming.

@ Quazar:  The connection is a little looser than you may think.  It is simply that I was conducting an audio visual experiment, and that av experimentation often employs the alpha frequency.  Besides that, I thought it was a really bad ass title.  But seriously, I thought the multiple angles would give more insight into the movement, and that the audio would add to that without being a distraction like some more complicated scores.   I had made a version with two more layers of sounds, but I fell in love with the simplicity of this version.

Technical difficulties.  I was signed up, then I wasn't now I am.

But...what did you think of the video?  Thats what this thread is for.

Glad to see that big jump from the portland jam in a video.

I really liked this video,  I think that you pulled this off quite well.  The one thing that irked me was the audio.  I really like the idea of keeping it simple and natural, but it started to turn into bad techno.  I would try to push that a little more.  The juxtaposition of the different angles and the successfull/failed attempts IMO is awesome.  I really look forward to seeing you push this type of video more and making it totally badass.

Where did you end up?  If you are back in Maine over the summer, let me know.  I acquired some production-level camera equipment and I've been really looking forward to making some PK videos.
Thanks for pointing me over here ;D

BTW I like your KAOS Parkour sig.

ok ok ok...its bad techno.  I'll definitely improve the sound for volume 2.

@Tex:  ooh....production level.  Chances of me being in Maine this summer are very good.

Thanks for all the comments guys!

I just started getting into parkour, like I'm going to my first training session today. I was browsing, looking around at lots of vids when I came across this one...and realized I had seen it before. Lindsey showed it to me like last week! I've met you a few times I'm Charles from Goucher (Ps i especially like the part there). Anyways tell Lindsey that I said HI and that I agree with her that you are most definelty bad-ass. Also I first heard about parkour from her, so I guess I can thank you for that! Enjoy Florida, maybe I'll see you in SF one day.
