Loss of momentum?
« on: September 12, 2011, 07:40:20 AM »
I was practicing the other day and I noticed that my momentum kills when I become airborne over my obstacle (For example, a vault over a railing.)  making it impossible for me to combine things like a precision after. I'm wondering if its just my arm strength, or if I'm not transitioning my momentum correctly?

If you have any ideas I'm open to all suggestions

I solved my problem, it took me a while, but after a bunch of experimenting I noticed I was stutter stepping before I reached my obstacle. Soo, problem solved.

If anyone wants to give me some pointers on how to get more height out of my Kong vaults tho, that would be awesome.

In general, you should use a split step take off for a kong. That is, you should go into the kong off of one foot and in stride. By in stride I mean that it should be a smooth walk/run (don't stutter or jump before the vault). But, if you need more height to kong a taller obstacle you might try a punch takeoff. That's essentially running at the obstacle, taking a small hop forward, then exploding off of both feet at the same time. It would be a lot easier to demonstrate than to explain with words. You should come to some jams sometime. They're a great way to learn. If you're ever in Oklahoma City let us know, we'd be more than happy to train with you.
