If you land on your back are you over-rotating or are younot getting all the way over?

no, if he's landing on his back, he's UNDER rotating

Try to post a video of a frontflip.  Then we can help you out more but you probably aren't blocking or jumping up, and I'm sure you could do to tuck harder.

Well here is my problem, either I am not jumping high enough or/& not doing the blocking thing right. I will try to get a vid on here but I doubt it, I dont have digital camera.

Hi.

Do you know how to do front roll?  It is a good start for flips.

To do front flip, take three-four medium pace steps, make a short jump (1ft is enough), land on the balls of both feet, raise both arms up, jump UP, and in the jump throw you hands down, tucking in.  Untuck once your legs are rotating down.
If you land on your back in the front flip, you are not rotating enough.  Just remember to jump up, rather than forward.  Running up will give you enough forward momentum.

If you feel uncomfortable doing front flip from a run, learn to do flip from a raised stationary object such as a chair.  2ft is high enough to give you enough space for rotation.  You can do this at home: take a spring matrass and throw some pillows underneath it to soften the fall.  Or do it outside into snow.  Just make sure the object you are jumping from is sturdy enough that it will not break or fly away when you jump from it.

Bye.

Andrey: your analysis is a bit off... run should be at near full or full speed, and the hurdle should be longer than a foot. Learning the move at full speed is best for technique. Slowing it down when you're underrotating is not going to be helping at all. I also would not recommend doing it off a chair as that's asking for disaster. It is *BEST* to learn from a gymnastics instructor.

You should learn how to do these at near full or at full speed with a long hurdle which raises your arms above your head, block (jump up) and throw your arms and drive your heels up over your head. Open the tuck approximately when you see directly above you at the ceiling when coming down. If you're landing on your back is it either due to 1) lack of rotation from a heel drive and/or arm throw or 2) your lack of vertical jump. Usually lack of jump is due to either conversion of your momentum to forward INSTEAD of vertical in your block (e.g. you travel more than 3 feet forward). If it's not that, then it's your overall power for your block or lack of rotation.

I highly recommend you see a gymnastics instructor and go to a gymnastics facility **and** post a video here. Honestly, if you want to progress beyond front flips to baranis or front fulls or whatnot you NEED to learn proper technique otherwise it will be significantly harder to get more advanced skills.
