Diet I found online, doesn't sound to bad
« on: June 13, 2011, 11:15:26 PM »
I found this online while looking for diet guides/etc. I think it would be a good idea, seeing I suck at diets. I want your guys opinions on this.

FYI Yes, one of my goals is to be really lean, it matters to me.

Better off going Paleo for 8 weeks. Take out refined and starchy carbs, sounds like Paleo, but spread out weirdly. Peanuts are legumes though, and those, I'm told, are not great for you due to the toxins in them.

I'm sure Chris or Steve will further elaborate, but really, just go full Paleo for 8 weeks (then why not stay on it, right?), and you'll drop your bf% probably increasing your mass at the same time.

Workout alot, and eat whatever you want.  If you arent seeing results...work out more!
I'm so fast that last night I turned off the light switch in my bedroom and was in bed before the room was dark.

Thing is, it costs a lot of $$$$$$ that you probably don't have.

It's really not as bad as people say. You might not live with a lot of different food, but I eat chicken 6 days a week, I jsut have an extensive spice rack, so I have different types of chicken every day. I also buy veggies, have them 7 days a week, broccoli isn't super expensive, neither is spinach. Eggs aren't pricey at all either. If you keep dairy out (100% paleo) you save big bucks on not buy 3+ gallons a week.

The most expensive part of my diet is beer...and now I make my own, so it's cheap again.

Beer is for pussies.  Drink HATE!!!  Hate and water...and black coffee if you like it.

This diet is a little too flexible.  I mean, the ideas are all good, but proportions are very specific to the individual.

Uh...what?  No it doesn't.  Not by a long shot.  Most times it is cheaper than non-paleo.

I Agree. I'm trying to get a brewing job. Don't think I could get away with not drinking beer.

Back on topic though, Paleo is a much better offer, and probably the same cost, if not cheaper than the diet offered on BB

Beer is pretty much liquid bread...so it really doesn't fit into a plan of eliminating breads and grains. ;)

Paleo is a very simple system that can support intense growth while eliminating spikes in glycemic levels.  It is pretty inexpensive in my opinion, and provides a nice array of tastes.  It can be carried to an extreme, if weight loss is the goal (as in ketosis-inducing levels) or can be tailored to suit a caloric excess that is stable in nutrition for an indefinite period of time.

I've been thinking about asking this for some time now (I guess I forgot once I actually made it to a computer) but could you track and present to us a weeks worth (or whatever logical interval) of meals for you and the associated costs? I'd LOVE to get a look at an example of the amount spent and the proportions and types of food it gets. An example would be Ok but an actual week would be really cool.

I'm going to be moving into an apartment in July... super excited. Already mapped out where the local CFMs are ;D

I don't think I'd be able to commit to paleo that abruptly, so I think that this would be good.

I spend about $400 a month on food for myself - but I eat out for lunch about 4 times a week and I eat out an expensive dinner at least 1ce a month.  And I drink beers at the pub from time to time with others.  That is all included in the $400 a month.

My groceries tend to be under $200 a month.  If I didn't eat out all the time, I estimate I would spend about $250-$300 a month on food, and I eat about 3-4kCal a day.

To put that into perspective, for $400/month, at 3-4 kCal a day, I am spending $13.00 a day for food in a 30 day month.  That INCLUDES eating out.

An "actual week" is kind of tricky because I go out to eat from time to time, and I buy in bulk (2-3 weeks worth of meat at a time, on occassion).  I keep track of my expenses on a weekly, monthly and yearly basis, and know that my food costs are ~$400 a month, which is about $100 a week, which is about $13 a day.  I very rarely exceed 400 by a lot.  I get all of my home cooked food from farmers, Whole Foods and the produce section of the grocery store.  My restaurant meals include meat and vegetables and tubers.  My lunches include Chipotle, Soup, Whole Foods Salad Bar, etc.

1 kCal = 1 "calorie" (calorie as it is popularly known)

You eat 3-4 megacals

Some science for ya

Cool! Thanks. Well, for one thing, I can assume it's a bit cheaper  over there compared to the Bay. One meal of eating out alone would be $9-13.

Last time I ate out, the bill came to about $80...I'm jealous...
