There really isn't too too much of a difference; the monkey is generally used to get up on top of things, or up over higher things, whereas the kong is used mainly to get over lower things and get a little more distance...check out these tutorials for more clarification:

Monkey is usually considered a gymnastic "squat on"

Kong is a "pass".

The way I've always thought about it is for a monkey you put your hands on the obstacles before jumping and for a kong you jump and then put your hands down. Small difference, but if you care there it is.

I've been through several parkour forums that say they are the same.

I call it the Catpass since that seems more fitting imo.

Diving catpass, catpass, ect...

to me a monkey is for standing still/ going really slow you put hands on first then jump it's for getting over rails or on top of things kong is going faster you jump then put hands down and you go over the thing i guess u can use it to get on top of things to but you would need a short QM before standing up
Everyone can try to get rid of us, my theory is, they need to catch us first :P

monkey was made for rails and what not while kong was for something you have to dive into like a picnic table

i'd like to second MedvisP's explanation. i also figured there was more distance covered by the kong vault as opposed to the monkey vault, but the motion is pretty much the same.
