I need a *quick* fix
« on: May 11, 2011, 08:48:14 PM »
Due to the fact that I'm a fairly late riser, and I go to school I need a quick breakfast that is easy to make.  I'm just looking for some examples.

What I'm eating now on most days: Cheerios with 2% reduced fat milk, 2 slices of meat (Either turkey or ham), a piece of fruit, and a V8.

I would prefer to get a more paleo style of breakfast, but I don't really have time to make eggs or cook something in the morning.

I've thought of one idea so far, leftovers, but I don't really want to always eat the same meal twice in a row.

Hopefully I could enjoy some of your breakfast ideas.

Try cooking the breakfast the night before.  Eggs scrambled with sausage/crumbled bacon.  Get whole milk.  Boil a few eggs the previous night, and you can crack them open and eat in the morning.  Just put your preparation time in on the previous night.  Forget the V8, and drink some milk and eat a fruit or veggie with breakfast.  With a little forethought, it's pretty easy to make it happen.

Listen to Joe. I have to do that with my food during the work week. If I didn't make it the night before. I would be eating junk food all day like most the dudes I work with.

I used to boil 8 eggs Sunday night, and 8 eggs Wednesday night. That would usually get me through the week. Luckily my work has a cafe, where I can get eggs cooked on the grill.

Other times, when cooking dinner, I'd cook some chicken off to the side for the morning.

Also, if you don't mind my asking, why is it you feel you *need* breakfast?

I tend to eat a lot more during the day if I don't eat breakfast, It's not such a big deal now because of summer time, but during school I would eat a much larger lunch if I didn't have breakfast.

Actually, breakfast is extremely important. It jump starts your metabolism for the day. Having a satisfying breakfast makes all the difference.

Agree to disagree.
There are plenty of studies and on going studies which have the objective of pin pointing what about a regular habit of eating a well prepared breakfast is directly linked to weight loss and higher metabolism.
Granted, I haven't found an article or journal where it clearly states the exact link, but I feel that I can get behind this 100% due to personal experience. It may not boost it as much as regular exercise, but I believe that it does boost it somewhat.

The biggest problem there is defining what "boosting the metabolism" exactly entails.

According to that article, other reports from health journals like The Journal of Nutrition, American Journal of Epidemiology, Mendeley, Journal of the American College of Nutrition, and WebMD are loosely basing their results and studies on the overwhelmed obese eaters of America? Not on the actual wide spectrum of all types of eaters anywhere?

Did you actually READ the articles?

They investigate the effect of skipping meals/eating more meals/etc. on metabolism. That is, if one significantly slowed down or sped up metabolism, there would be results in terms of weight gain.

They are investigating them BECAUSE energy intake and metabolism is related to obesity. The subjects in the studies are ALL DIFFERENT TYPES OF PEOPLE.

That is why there is the conclusion that there is no effect.

Basically, meal frequency doesn't matter. Skipping meals, or eating more meals doesn't matter.

Standing up from this chair here will increase my metabolic rate, too.

In fact, if I go pass this bowel movement, my metabolic rate increases.

If I had the right the connections, I'd have a peer-reviewed study conducted that confirms this.

I can see the headline now:

Shit yourself skinny!!!

I use breakfast to "jumpstart" my caloric intake.  There's only so much room in my stomach and so much time during the day to shovel food in.  Meal frequency matters if you can't eat enough in one sitting to get all the food you're wanting to take in.
