5.10 Chase phantom Review

I recently purchased a pair of the 5.10 Chase Phantoms to use for parkour. I usually use WFPF KOs or Vibram KSOs so the shoe is a little bit different. The 5.10 Chase weighs 14 ounces and is a much stiffer shoe than either of the ones I usually use. It flexes fine at the toe because my body weight is enough to bend the rubber but the middle of the foot is a different story. Overall Im not sure that it is a bad thing. While I love the feel of a very flexible shoe I don't feel that the stiffness in the middle of the shoe affects my technique as I land on the balls of my feet. Also the solid feeling in the middle of the shoe and the hard rubber toe cap definitely improve confidence on precisions. You don't get the feeling that your going to smash your toes into something or that your going to hit and slide off backwards. The shoe is made almost entirely of Leather suede and nubuck and Looks amazing. However it doesn't breath super well. I dont mind though. The construction is extremely solid and I can see these taking a ton of punishment. The shoe is pretty comfortable and it has a very fitted feel. It is narrow so I wouldn't recommend if you have really wide feet. I wore them for about a week before training in them to let them wear in a little bit. They are my first 5.10's so I was excited to see how the grip is. Once I started training I began with my daily routine a 40 foot rail walk followed my 2 rail precisions and a cat leap. I know what your thinking. 5.10's arent good on rails! But soooo not true with the chase. The fitted shape of the shoe made walking on rails pretty easy even though they are only about 1 inch wide. However it was different from having a shoe that wraps around the rail. They grip didn't slip at all the entire 40 feet. Then on the rail precisions they performed like champions. The precisions were just as easy as in my KOs and maybe easier. The solid feel of the shoe just made me a little more confident in the precisions I felt like it just wasn't going to slip on me or anything and the grip was ROCK SOLID! I think its the tread on the Chase's but whatever it is they definitely dont have a problem on most rails. I say most because I did find one rail that I slid on a little while cat walking it. But that rail is at a 60-70 degree angle. On brick and concrete I might as well have been spider man lol. I also tested them by doing some height jumps about what I normally do in my KO's and KSOs. A few 4 foot then 6 and then 10 foot drops. The shoe did not interfere with my technique and I was able to use my calves and legs to absorb and redirect the impact into a roll just as easily as usual. I did have one bad landing because Im still working into the shoes and when my landing was bad I did feel it. However it wasn't horribly painful. I was able to walk away as if nothing had happened. No one but me felt the sting in the bottom of my shoes. The rubber is NOT NON MARKING like 5.10 says. It marks just fine.
Overall the 5.10's stats are
Cushion:7/10 It has a lot more cushion than KO's however not so much that you dont feel anything. I feel like it has just the right amount for its construction and shoe style.
Grip 10/10 Amazing grip and had no problem with rails. Only thing it didn't like was painted cinderblock but nothing really likes painted cinderblock except for ksos.
Comfort. 7/10 Great comfort but they wouldn't fit someone with a wide foot. Also I usually loosen them if Im not walking around or training.
Durability 10/10 These shoes are SOLID. Leather construction and stealth rubber outsole these things will last at least 6-10 months.
Flexibiliy 4/10 The weak point. This one is dependent on the wearer. It is flexible enough in the toe new and will become more flexible with time that it doesn't really inhibit technique however some people want the entire shoe flexible. I will update this once the shoe is more broken in to let you know how flexible it becomes with time.
Price. 89 dollar. I got these at ZAPPOS.COM for 89 dollars with free shipping. A tad pricey but I think it was worth it.
Let me know if you have any questions about the shoe.

I got these...eh, liked my Savants much better, slipped more than those did, but way better for rails and stuff, plus awesome support for big drops, might jus have to break em in

Between these my kso's and mmy KO's I am good. I use these for looking good
and bigger stuff. If im practicing big jumps, cats, or precisions I use these. For more rail work I prefer my kso's but these are just fine. I havent slipped yet. I use my KO's when iM FORCING myself to have good technique and when Im not confident in the kso's. Just switch out for the training exercise ya know. All in all these are the shoes I wear the most. I am trying to change that so that my technique will progress even further but these are the bomb for big tricks.

If you like your savants check out the warhawks; they are the cross between the savants and the freerunners. Just fyi.
