Standing gainer vs. running gainer
« on: April 24, 2011, 12:52:43 PM »
so how similar is a running gainer to a standing gainer? i can do standing gainers, but i'm wondering if running gainers work the same way. can i just get my hips up a little bit, and then tuck over? any tips would be great, thanks guys!

For me, I like standing gainers.  Running gainers scare me cause you have to worry more about to take off and such.  And when I do standing gainers, I can just think of it as pushing forward in a backtuck.

Yeah same here, but i also want to learn running gainers. I'm hoping they are sort of the same technique.

I tried running gainers on flat ground today.   MUCH scarier than standing :P

Essentially the technique for the flip part of the skill is the same. The takeoff is the real difference, plus you won't have to try as hard to get the forward distance.

Remember to still set tall - arms up, tuck knees up the same as your back tuck or standing gainer, etc. DO NOT PUNCH A RUNNING GAINER. Use a kick.  common problem with running gainers is people forget to go UP still (again, set). and they just sort of run and tuck without jumping. This will end in bad times.

If you can practice at a gym/in a foam pit I highly recommend it first.

Good luck! Train safely.
