well guys just an update. today i went to my bone and joint doctor and he told me some news thats had me upset all day... he said since my pelvis and ribs are so messed up i cant jog or run or skii or do parkour for the rest of my life because i am at risk of injuring them again... you know words cant express how upset i am knowing this...

I fractured my skull in a bad skiing accident when I was nine.  After I had a seizure in the ER the docs told my mom I'd never walk or talk again.  When I came out of the coma a few days later in the ICU, the first thing I said was the correct answer, or rather question, to the Jeopardy clue that was on the TV at that moment.

doctors say it more then too often man. dont let it get you down. if you feel like you can do it later in life without it harming you, by all means go for it.
i sure hope he is wrong about what he said though.

so its been a while but a little update.. yesterday was the first time i ran since the day of my fall.(defied dr.'s once again cuz they said id never run again.. nick-4  dr's-0) i even took off my leg brace to do it and no longer am using it.. my pelvis ribs and shoulder are still all broken but the dr said by looking at the xrays they are almost fully healed.. i still have bad nerve damage in my right leg that wont heal the dr said until next year... you know ive been doing alot of thinking this whole time and part of me hates parkour for what im going though but part of me still loves parkour and wants to go back to it when im fully healed but not at the level i was it.. maybe at just a basic level... but im scared of the fact that once i get those first few jumps and vaults in that im going to want to keep pushing myself like i used to do... idk what ima do.. any advice?

Follow your heart, brother. You'll know the best choice when it comes. Nobody here can tell you whether you should or shouldn't continue your training, since nobody here has had the experiences you have. You know yourself better than anybody. Your heart will tell you what it wants. Maybe tomorrow, maybe next year. Just listen. Either way, you've got a family who will stand behind you all the way right here.

While I was rehabbing and on disability from my surgery, I didn't know if I was ever going to come back, if it was worth the risk, or how I would train if I did decide to train again.

When the time came and the doctors gave me the go-ahead, like Adam said, I knew what was right for me.

I was extremely conservative when I started training again.  A few months later I'm doing things I never did before my accident.  However, I definitely avoid similar risks, and I have a new respect for the potential consequences of every action.

You'll know what's what better than anyone else and you will make the right decision.

see i know what i want to do.. i want to go back to parkour (but am afraid that if i do ill push myself again). but idk how to explain that i wanna do it to my family and people that are close to me.. i tried explaining it to my mom and the only thing she tells me is "Nick parkour almost killed you and theres a huge risk of you breaking your ribs again and the titanium cutting your heart.  You have no idea how stressful it was for the dr to come out and tell me that he wasnt sure if you were going to make it through the surgery. You need to get past it, let it go, and move on. Period"  i dont want to move on. parkour was a HUGE part of my life. shit you can ask my friends and family what am i known for and they will say for my parkour... i just wish people would realize how much i truly do LOVE this art form...

If your parents truly love you, which they obviously do, they will soon feel the love you have for the art, and because of their love for you, be okay with it. It will just take time for them to get over the fear. Be patient. Trust. Let their concern be a motivator for you to take things very slowly and easy, right now. As your ability and willingness to push yourself grows, I guarantee, so will their understanding.

just re-read this, I think  if you follow your heart not only will it in the long run be the thing you want but it will also be the thing that will feel right.  but no matter where your path takes you, all traceurs are family and once a traceur, always a traceur.
The only other pictures i could find of Cocaine Badger on google images were hosted on this wierd site about furries and smoking weed, so...

I don't understand that statement...
You're always at risk for breaking something, even bones you've already broken.
What do they mean specifically by that? Bones mend and heal, don't they? Besides, if they stitched your ribs back up with titanium and they heal again, wouldn't the titanium make the ribs stronger via reinforcement? It's not like the bones stay broken forever.

Someone help me understand this?

The reason he said i cant do that is cuz if i fall and the ribs that have titanium break. Not the actual titanium i have a possibility of 1 of the 23 screws cutting my heart.

So they screwed up putting screws into your ribs?

I don't see the physiology in that...

the titanium wont break but where the back of the rib meets your spine can and the metal will cut my heart. if that makes sense..

So if your rib breaks at the spinal connection, the rib will plow through your organs and muscles until it reaches your heart? That's weird, because normally the break doesn't happen in that area, let alone end up puncturing your organs from behind. I can imagine a frontal or side impact doing that and giving you a punctured lung but... man that's just weird.

well considering i broke my ribs in over 23 places the dr.'s said he has no explanation of why my heart wasnt cut because my tissue and over 20% of my lung was lacerated... im just going by what the dr. told me. he says its just not smart to do anything where i can break my ribs again because that could end my life.
