please help me on dash vaults...
« on: December 14, 2006, 06:21:44 PM »
ok here it isi can almost dash...i mean i have the first lead leg out then the second one doesn't come up and out far enough and i end up just landing on my feet on top...i think i need to kick out and ill go to the gym place and try it...i think it is mostly fear of landing on my arse(which would be funny though it would hurt)...im practicing on those green electrical boxes not the tall ones the ones that are aroundmaybe 3 feet higher... i can kong and speed vault them but a dash seems more efficent

Dashes aren't more efficent, speeds would be the fastest.

efficent or not Dashes are still fun to do, I remembered one time a dash vault saved me from a world of hurt.

Efficiency is paramount in parkour, but I believe it's also a great idea to have more "inefficient" techniques at your disposal. One never knows when you might have to bail, and turn it into another vault as your landing, or when situations change and suddenly your intended vault will no longer work (as Moonrunner posted).  Besides. Why would you say "That is slightly less efficient than <this>, so I'm not even going to bother learning it." Learn all you can! That's my motto.

Just something I was thinking about the other day.

PS. Speaking of learning all you can, Mac keyboards are so confusing.

Yeah because one time I wanted to kong this picnic table, but instead of a kong vault I did a dash vault and much to my dismay the table was covered in frost. So I sild off the table and crashed right onto the seat of the picnic table.

How in Zeus's beard did you go for a move requiring a hands-forward dive, and end up doing a move that puts your weight back and feet straight out in front?  :D

oh, and always check your surfaces!

i think dashes are good for flow and combinations. Its easier/more efficient/better looking (depending on who you are) to do a dash to a kong than a kong to a kong.
I am the young man, full of strength and hope,
Tangled in that ancient endless chain
Of profit, power, gain, of grab the land!
Of grab the gold! Of grab the ways of satisfying need!
Of work the men! Of take the pay!
Of owning everything for one's own greed!

i like dashes for vault to precisions because they allow you to keep your butt over your feet when you squat to absorb the shock. kongs are a close second and only cause they have more upperbody forward momentum.
