Getting up over walls
« on: February 09, 2011, 04:11:57 PM »
I was practicing on my shed some muscle ups and i found that it takes me a little while to get up...i look like im a weak struggler trying to do it. i have to use the "chicken wing" a little bit to get up. i thought it also might be the ledge of the shed is triangular and not straight. i know im pretty fit. i can do 20 good pullups on my bar at home, my wallrun up the wall is decent. its just the part i have to use my triceps to get up that i struggle on. ive watched the "muscle up help" video but it hasnt helped much and i dont know or have the same equipment to train to make it easier. anyone have helpful advice?? ???

Do some dips! On anything that you can. Or, do pushups with your elbows in. Both of these exercises will increase your tricep strength immensely.

a climb up is an awkward movement. you have to try to bring your elbows down while you flex your biceps to keep your arms straight in order to get your upper body working properly. you really want to go up and then in, not in and then up.

it helps to have one foot higher on the wall than the other, use the higher foot to stabilize you and start pushing while you kick your other knee up to get that little bit of oomph you need to get your shoulders above the wall (thats when you come back in).

honestly, you are probably strong enough for climb ups, you just havnt used those muscles in a while (probably) so they dont quite know what to do. just focus on a good technique and the strength will come with time.

my mind is constantly moving, one day my body will be strong enough to keep up.

Practicing climb ups will be the most effective for being able to do a climb up, for conditioning, a climb up will work all the muscles you use to do a climb up.

I like Tricking and Free Running, i don't think i actually do parkour, because i do it for fun and self expression, which would change the term to free running.

Something that might help is - you know how you get over the wall with a wallrun? Can you just do the same when hanging from a wall, that is, kicking one leg out and up, which will cause your body to go up. Then it's just a matter of straightening your arms with relatively minimal pushing.

Give L-pullups a try. LPUs may accomplish what the others have suggested with keeping your elbows in. It's also good in that it works your core. Whatever it is, they really helped me in my MUs and climbups.
