A failed attempt at a cat leap where the traceurs hands come just short of the target, resulting in the fingernails "clawing" the wall or object. It is not unusual for the fingernails to "remove themselves".

oh i hate when this happens. I think i have it so i start to focus on my top out and i just claw the top of the wall.
