Stealthy Parkour
« on: January 30, 2011, 12:32:45 AM »
I have been doing parkour for 2-3 years now and have seen many differences in my style of parkour from other people's. I am quite agile, flexible, and strong (stamina included) and have a light 130 pound frame. BUT one huge difference between what i do and what i have seen others do is the fact that i incorporate stealth into my parkour. Its more like 50% parkour 50% stealth.
I have been developing this skill by sneaking around places, some of which are guarded, and training in covert infiltration/exfiltration. Let me explain: I have always been the kid who wins at hide and go seek and who spends more time on roofs or in trees than on the ground. I also was a very stupid kid and liked sneaking into places. I would sneak into abandoned buildings (urban exploring), into occupied buildings, into office buildings using the parking garages, into schools at night (with alarms and such) by the age of 12. I got into graffiti and used my stealthy ways to tag places and what not. I also was (am) very adept at social engineering. I learned how to pick locks and how to case an area out. I was basically a ghost. I was addicted to going into places that i wasn't allowed to be in just for the rush and experience. I could (can) get inside a place, do my thing, and get out, without anyone knowing. This is my forte. I am addicted to being stealthy, being right under people's noses without them ever finding me. I am also addicted to growing and learning. I want to know if anyone else has any useful advice, tips, stories, anything. If anyone wants to hear anything from me, ask away.

Not gonna harp on anything you don't already know, whatever you do be smart. I can't say I haven't done any of the things mentioned above but what I will say is don't think you are invisible, you will get caught so please be smart when doing something illegal like trespassing

Although most people wouldn't approve of your activities. I think that's pretty sweet, could you expound on how you think your training differs from others? I've always been a huge fan of silent parkour movements.

Ha, that is excellent.  I think it's genious what you've done with the art of parkour just so long as you don't commit any major crimes while you "visit" these places.

All I can think to say it that I agree with Devin.  Don't get cocky.  This is dangerous for traceurs in general but especially, I think, for what you're doing.  Just be careful.  You can't do parkour in a cell, man. (Well, actually you probably can but there will be a limit to your movements and that's besides the point)

But, once gain, I think this is awesome.  Keep it up, "Invisible Man".

I guess one way is the fact that i taught myself to do normal movements such as walking or running silently or as quiet as possible. I have also been training in proper breathing techniques which comes in handy a lot. plus my favorite way to train is to do parkour in broad daylight without attracting any attention.

and to everyone else, i dont commit crimes other than trespassing. if anyone doesnt like that dont try to lecture me about how trespassing is wrong and whatnot. I know that it is unlawful but if we didnt ever try anything new, how would we progress? i dont want to remain stagnant. Parkour is about freedom. unrestricted, flowing movement. if i have to trespass to experience this freedom then so be it.

Not to endorse what you do, but I also love stealth and the idea of "any door can be opened". :)

If you have any videos of you doing stealth practice, we'd like to see.

your skills could get u places and its pretty cool what ur doing. its a very unique skill it could def be helpful in some situations. just dont start stealing stuff and that sort of thing cuz graffiti isnt that big of a felony(or at least in indiana its not) but stealing stuff could get u on probation and house arrest and that sort of stuff. just looking out for you.  :)

That is some hardcore stuff, I'd try "Stealth Parkouring" but my town is full of "Gangsters" and that means Cops. So more likely chance I'd get caught. Teach me your ways oh Great Invisible One!

I'm the same way dude. Right out behind my apartments there is this strip mall, there are a few empty buildings and I love to sneak in there and just chill. Never went into any occupied buildings though. As fun as it would be trying to be Sam Fisher, I dont think I'm that good. Haha

I would say training...seems like a safer bet. The latter would be cool though.

That would honestly be uber bad-ass. I was out today considering sneaking around in Westerns building and such, all those offices are calling my name xD
