Webster Courage/Technique
« on: January 11, 2011, 03:52:58 PM »
So, as the title suggests, I need help getting courage for websters :P I have front tucks down pretty well, and now I even have the perfect spot for webster's. But some reason, I get way too scared to do it. Like, getting the momentum then squat on one leg and kick with the other and push? That scares me >_< I mainly think it's the squat thing ? Any advice?
I need courage D:
Thanks in advance :P

With a foam pit or thick mat also comes courage. especially in a foam pit, not much can go wrong there.

My current spot to practice is this huge sand pit. I can either go flat ground, or I could do about a 3/4 foot drop.
No foam pits or mats :/

Sand won't kill ya! Just muster up that courage ;) When it comes down to it, you'll only do it if you really want it. So I leave you with this question, do you really want it?

The only thing that could possibly happen (if you follow through with the flip- which is the most important thing) would be you to sit down REALLY hard ;)

My advice for the webster is to swing that leg back as hard as possible. Remember to jump up and tuck hard, I usually grab the back of my thighs.

Yes, I really want it D: Haha.
Thanks though. To everyone ^-^

I go back to my moms next weekend (where I have the sand), and I wanna try then...

Do y'all think it'd be easier to do it from running or standing? (If standing, I can make it off something)

You Don't need courage for a webster.
I like Tricking and Free Running, i don't think i actually do parkour, because i do it for fun and self expression, which would change the term to free running.

Just do it.

I sound like a jerk but you just have to.  There's really no progression you can take for a webster, when I was learning mine I was practicing whipping my leg behind me and seeing how hard I could do it and all of a sudden I realized I had kicked too hard and I was in midair.  Then in midair I was like..."shit, I'm halfway through the flip, might as well finish it...TUCK LIKE A MOFO" and then I landed on my butt haha.  Then I realized it didn't hurt and tried again.  Then I stopped because I realized I wasn't getting anywhere close and I haven't gotten back to it yet, but that's not the point haha.

So take that sand of yours and try it haha, I did it on grass, you won't kill yourself, trust me ;)

In hindsight looking back at the post I see that I kinda just blathered on about my webster experience but I'm glad it somehow helped hahaha :)

Haha. But that kinda experience makes me feel good about it :P Like knowing another persons real experience instead of just watching it. If that makes sense ? xP

I'm so pumped for this weekend :O

Is it usual to have courage to try a side flip before a Webster?

Everybody learns and becomes comfortable with different flips at different times, so it's really a matter of how you personally progress. If you are comfortable with side flips already, then that's great! Use that satisfaction when you land a sideflip as motivation to get better at websters now :)

Jordan's right, do what feels comfortable to you.  I really did not understand how sideflips worked at all and I thought I would break my ankles underrotating but after feeling it out and thinking about it I got a gradual understanding and now it's my favorite flip :). But don't go by the way others feel, do whatever is comfortable to you and your body.  I myself do not try anything if I can't grasp how it feels and "get" the move.

Okay, well, I tried a few today. :P I don't think I really put my all into it, cause it still scared me >_<
But. How long should the non-kicking leg stay on the ground before I press off for the flip? D:
I kept landing on my butt >_< but I don't think my form is correct anyways >_<

Told you you wouldn't die ;D

Swing tricks are all timing.  Here we go: first, you whip that back leg up HARD and keep it swinging.  Then, when you start to feel it pull at your crotch, when that leg has reached its peak, push off with your leg as hard as you can, jumping.  That leg should push as your back leg reaches its peak and if you did it right the combined forces should swing you right over!

And hm.. Alrighty. I didn't really give my swinging leg all that much time >_< I'll be sure to try more today :D Especially at my mom's, with the sandddd :DD
