Complete Feiyue Make Over: Pics included
« on: January 08, 2011, 10:10:56 PM »
Hello folks!

Just thought about sharing this with you. I bought the black Feiyues 6 months ago, totally loved them, but now they're worn out (wall run practice). So I decided to get the white ones this time, hopefully it will go well with my lighter clothes for a nice urban-style look.

Well, like many others, I was wrong. Wearing a dark green hoodie and grey cargos, white shoes just don't look right at all, so I decided to change that. Here's the result:

As you can see, it went very well with my current cargos. And since it's grey, it will go with any other Earth-tone color.

Both white and black colors stand out too much.

So you're asking; How did you do it?

You can use any cloth dye and rubber paint to get a nice solid surface. However, due to lack of experience with such stuff, I used Fabric markers.
One grey (main color) marker was just enough to color one shoe, while the black (secondary) marker had about 2/3 used up, so get 2 of each.

Total cost: $14

If you decided to do the same, you'll have a tough time with the rubber part. Just use your finger to smudge the color inside the tiny grooves. Or sand the rubber for the dye to stick on it. Whatever you like.

Apologies for the crappy quality.

For anyone who wishes to start customizing their shoes, please post your pictures in this thread! :D
Thanks for reading!

I was thinking of buying a pair of white Feiyues (or bleaching them? How would that work?) and dying them olive drab in RIT dye. Probably just spraypaint the rubber...

Anyone ever try a split-toe mod with Feiyues?

split toe is overrated
get vibrams
(except I encounter a problem with fences while wearing vibrams)

Actually, having free toes makes climbing fences somewhat easier, especially when it has a sharp top. You just have to take it easy :P

But anyway, I've never seen a split-toe for Feiyues; how would that be done without destroying the whole shoe?
And I wish I knew where to find dye earlier... but markers worked fine. :)

Marker a dot where the trough of your toe is, hacksaw it straight from tip of toes to dot, buy a little bit of canvas and sew it.

That looks feasible....actually might be easier than I thought. So you can just cut through the rubber (top and bottom), then maybe glue some canvas from the inside, waterproof it.... hmmm.

*thinking out loud*

What about sewing a U-shaped canvas strip (to fit inside of your toe) in the sawed slit, then cutting a similarly sized strip of thin rubber and attaching it with rubber cement?

Or, gluing a piece of canvas/linen with rubber cement to a strip of same sized rubber, then use an awl to sew that on as a whole.

Second mod idea, removing the rubber "heel cup" thingy with a seam ripper and razor, then sewing on a loop (like sweatpants elastic around the waist) to tighten around the ankle? You'd tie it just like regular. It would also compact more easily. It'd be tighter higher up on your ankle.

Third mod idea, sew a square of canvas on the top and inside of the shoe to cover the two "flaps" more smoothly.

Cool tip, you can fit money in those flaps. I'd feel better if I wasn't sweating on it. :P

I think I'll want to add some more soft rubber to the top and frontal sides of the shoe. (We need to come up with parkour-shoe specific terms. :P )

Yes, yes we do. Because I lost you on the third line. :)
Anyway, you love experimenting, so do what you like and post here. I'm done with mine and will be content for a while. ;D

it would be interesting to see something like certain motocross boots: inner, waterproof toe-fit(underarmour material)sock/bootie, whatever you want to call it, that fits inside an outer sleeve/sole...just an idea

Don't wanna freak you out (and I'm digging the shoes) but I'm wearing that exact same pair of pants...right. Now.
The only other pictures i could find of Cocaine Badger on google images were hosted on this wierd site about furries and smoking weed, so...

So, not related to the mod at all, but.....

Grey sweats + white shoes = awesome.

Anyway....

has anyone tried painting theirs as some other bright color? Maybe red or blue or something like that?

like feiyue shoes very much, it good traction and are flat enough that I can confidently practice foot movements without the distraction of a large, heavy sole. I wouldn't use these shoes for walking over rough terrain or jogging.
I'm sure something worthwhile will come along.
