A wrestler in need of guidance
« on: November 18, 2010, 06:05:33 PM »
mmmk so as the title says, I wrestle. I love it. Anyway my plan was to not anything and let my body feed off my extra fat depoits, then I would simply put some weight back on in muscle. However this is starting to seem like a increasingly bad idear. ( yes I meant to do that ) so my APK borthers, what diet should I follow so that I can keep the weight off but in a safer way. I like my meat and I like my veggies and I really liek all natural foods too. Any help is appreciated.

Lift heavy weights.

Eat real foods. Lots of meat, good fats, and fruits and veges

That will get you there.

What about bread on a peanut butter sandwitch?

The short answer is that processed foods like peanut butter and bread are usually not as nutritious as whole foods like peanuts, fruits, vegetables, and lean naturally fed preservative-free meats.

that'll get you nowhere!
you need real tomato sauce, with extra pizza cheese

but honestly, keep eating natural. you don't need carbo loading, but you still need carbs. veggies give you carbs, but dont you need some pasta or something too?

Actually, you dont need carbs to live.  You can survive (and some even claim thrive) on a 0 carb diet.

How much people recommend you get, from 0 to 500g a day, seems more like a religious belief these days than a scientific one.

Chris, is there any carbohydrate in vegetables? If so, are those people not eating vegetables?

Yes, veggies are almost all carbs. Except the carbs are blunted a bit by the fiber and other minerals in it.

If you're in ketosis you can eat some veggies, but very little. You can have some carbs and stay in ketosis, but generally you'd want to stay away.

Vegetables do not necessarily have to be in a healthy diet if you're getting everything from other sources. For example, Inuit survive mostly on stuff hunted... and get seasonal veggies (of which aren't available much of the time in the arctic). It's a myth that you need vegetables to be healthy when you can get most of the nutrients you need from fish/whale/etc. like they do (cause fish get those nutrients from smaller fish and plant life).

Very low carb paleo people eschew fruits and vegetables and they do just fine.

interesting. Good information. So the nutrients and fibers in vegetables aren't completely necessary for optimal survival?  We can obtain the same nutrients from seafood and animals?

I wouldn't say optimal survival necessarily...

You can survive very well without them though. Remember, all of the animal organ meats and fats are going to be the ones that contain all of the vitamins and minerals that we need. Problem is... no one eats those... and then they eat processed foods and no fruits and veggies which is why everyone is so vitamin/minderal deficient nowadays.

In general though I wouldn't go to either extreme unless you want to see how your body reacts. Just eat everything of non-processed food in moderation. Fish, meat, fowl, etc. + fruits, veggies, nuts, etc

Hey guys I have another question. Ok so I have no problems with eating too much food, however I do drink alot of liquids (orange juice, milk, water, etc) and while I can drop about 7-9lbs a practice, I wanted to know if there was a way I could keep drinking liquids without worrying so much of the added water weight, like maybe finding some kind of balance so that I can keep the weight down but still drink whole juice and water and stuff like that. Maybe I just need to cut down on it all together, but I thought maybe you guys had some ideas or insight on the matter.

Why are you worried about water weight.

Unless you're trying to cut down for a weight class sport there's no reason why you should be worrying about that

I am cutting down... well actually I'm pretty much there; I just wanted to know if there was a way I could stay down and still keep up the fluid intake
