Newbie Mistake: Knee bashed up a bit
« on: October 28, 2010, 12:47:13 AM »
Date of Injury: October 25th 2010

Time of injury (0:00 to 23:59): 16:30ish

Your DOB and age: 1-31-89, 21

City, State: Barstow, California

# years practicing Parkour / Freerunning: Less than a year

Hours of training per week. (real, not what you'd like to do): Not much, I just do stuff while I am on my day to day activities. 1-2 hours.

Location where injury occurred: Knee

What you were doing / trying to do when injury occurred?: Speed vault over a rail on my way to class

Part of body  - description of injury, rating of severity 1-10: 2/3

Did you see a doctor for diagnosis?: No

Could you / how could you have avoided the injury?: Toss my legs out to the side higher, better strength and coordination in my hips and thighs.

Notes on the experience?: Basically just posting this as a warning to newbies like me! I was speed vaulting the rail but my legs didn't get high enough and my left knee slammed into the rail as I was going over. It took all I had to walk away without limping. Still is tender, but it doesn't seem that serious.
