Winter Training Help
« on: January 04, 2010, 12:54:44 PM »
I live in Michigan so right now it's not too pretty out there :P.
Does anyone have any ideas about how to train indoors?
I mean I do the APK warmup routine every day but is there anything that I can do that would really prepare me for the upcoming season?

As a Texan, I know how a rough winter can feel, trust me! It's about 50 out there right now, and I'm and I'm seriously having to contemplate wearing a shirt... But don't worry, I wont let this horrible weather stop me ;)

If you have a lot of time on your hands, might I suggest a few advanced gymnastics body weight progression? They sure as hell take time! I bet you'de have a back lever by the end of the winter if you worked diligently:)

Thank you for the suggestion :)
The only problem is, I have school D: My homework usually lasts from when I get home until 6 o' clock. Would these workouts be very time consuming?
Also, would I need any special equipment?

Have you got any stairs? Is there a place you can put a pullup bar? Do you have furniture you don't care about?
You could spend some time training your jumps. I also second the gymnastic bodyweight exercises. Do a lot of quadrupedal work, even mocking a jam in this way (vaults, tic-tacs with your hand posted on the floor, etc.).
Or check out this video:

You've got to learn to look at things differently. Instead of going around the dinner table, go under it. Hop across the house instead of walking. Do a vault to sit on the couch. Kong onto the sink and crouch there while brushing your teeth. Heck, crouch on the toilet while doing your business (which will turn out to be useful if you ever visit China, believe you me). If you have a balcony, climb it/vault it. Tictacs off the walls, vaults over the arms of the couch or chair. If you own the stuff, there's no end to the possibilities. If you're under your parents' care or rent or share...beware.

Thank you all for your help!
As for goals, right now I'm not too sure just yet. I've just been trying to get back into working order.

BTW
It was -2 degrees yesterday with the windchill :D

i personally live in new hampshire, when the weather truns south during the winter i take plastic bins to use as molds and fill them with snow and tip em over and build vault boxes out of my snow/ice bricks. and practicing your rolls in the snow helps you get the motions down without destroying your back on concrete.
