I was wondering if a cat purring is as possible wake up/interferer in sleep. Unrelated, but a link to training cats to stay off my upper body would be nice.

Actually background noise can help you fall asleep faster and sleep more soundly.
Plus it's always nice to have a kitty companion. :3

When I had a cat, his name was Elvis, he use to sleep right on my pillow and purr all night. It made me fall asleep faster and it was a comfort thing too. Now since I don't have Elvis anymore, he ran away when we moved, I listening to calming music or have a movie playing in the background to fall asleep. Its nice have noise, music mostly, help you fall asleep.

Cat purring can help you burn fat at night and helps with muscle confusion and spot reduction. They also can be used as drugs. Have you been cheesing? http://www.ebaumsworld.com/video/watch/80605864/

I'm wondering if they might interfere with my sleep.

You probably know if they're interfering with your sleep better than any of us would. If you're feeling fatigued in the morning, try going to bed earlier. If that doesn't help, you might want to try not having cats in your room.
