« on: September 19, 2010, 06:16:14 PM »
Hey everyone! Im new to parkour and im actually just trying to get some decent shoes right now. And I wanna stay with asics and I ran across these and I was just wondering if they are good for parkour and freerunning? And if not what are some good(not too expensive) asics? Thanks!

most people here will tell you i LOVE these shoes. get ones that are inbetween the flat soled ones and the ones with a bit of a lifted heel. the flat ones are just too thin, eventually wearing down to absolutely no padding or support. i mean so little you really might as well not even wear the damn things.

this belongs in consumer whores might i add.

Mine have the little bit of padded heel...

there are two main kinds. and then some other varieties believe it or not.

i found one pair thats straight up flat sole, used for work and tried out for parkour.

then the pair with a slightly elevated heel that i use for parkour training.

Hmmm ok! The ones I found were the ones with the elevated heel. I can get them for 50$. Is that a good deal?

I wear these, the Mexico 66's with very little padding.  Its the closest step up from VFFs that I've found.

Better is a subjective word in this case. It really depends on the person, do you want a small yet decent amount of padding? or do you want very little for better training purposes. Your choice.

once broken in i find the ultimate 81's to be the perfect amount of padding. the mexico 66's tend to become like a slipper while the 81's tend to stay like a sneaker but, very flexible. you can still really feel the ground, there is just a bit more support.

in my really honest opinion these are the shoes i have been looking for. i have been searching for a shoe that is very parkour friendly and i truly believe these particular 81's are it. i may see if i can get some more support and get in touch with asics and talk about a parkour shoe of sorts.

i would love to see them put out an onitsuka style parkour shoe. all of their shoes are pretty high performance with good materials.
