Peter's Training log (comments and advice needed)
« on: August 28, 2010, 12:20:19 PM »
Hi everyone. I am kinda a newer traceur, and i am trying to get into shape for parkour. I kinda needed a little help, so i went over a few of these and kinda took a format. Please dont be mad at me if I borrowed yours. I kinda have never done this before.

Physical stats: I am 14, and turning 15 this year. I weigh 135 Lb, and i am 5'11".

What I need to work on:
-Be able to run faster and longer... I used to be able to complete a mile in under 6 minutes!!! but that was a while ago, and I want to be able to again.
-Be able to do a hand stand for a very long time, like a minute or so.
-Achieve full body planche
-Improve precision jumping, landing and rolling and anything to do with jumping height. (side note: i want to be able to dunk)
-Improve my vaults, and be able to complete the very elusive and famous double kong!! DONE!! Im happy. Now new goal. Be able to kong over a picnic table, and double kong over... something outside.
-Be able to do a backflip, frontflip, sideflip, and any flip in between!!
-Wall Flip Done.
replaced by -Wallspin
-Gainer
-Go to Parkour Jam... kinda wierd, but I have never been to one!

Well, anyway, that is a start, and I kinda know that this is gonna take a very LONG time.
Ok, so i made this list of what i want to do for a workout till im able to complete my goals. As i said, this is gonna take a while, so try and cut me some slack.

Sunday: Day of rest

Monday: Work on handstands, Planches, pushup/ pull up.
Wanted amount: Handstand: 1:30 Planches: 1:00 Pull-ups: 25 Minimum Push-ups: 100 minimum

Thursday: Day of rest

Friday: work on one armed pull-ups/ push-ups, handstands and planches
Wanted amount: One armed Push-ups 20. One armed pull-ups: 15 Handstand: 1:30 Planches: 1:00

Saturday: Run mile, clean lifts, curl-ups, weighted hanging curl-ups
Wanted amount: Mile: 5:58 Curls ups: 100 easily Weighted hanging curl ups: 25

Eat healthier. Apple a day. At least 2 water bottles. Less junk food, more good carbs. Eat healthy.

Day before workout begins: Did 10 hand stand pushups. Ran ˝ mile in 3:00. Did 50 push-ups. Completed 50 curl-ups.

Keep in mind this is what im going to work on. The wanted abount thing, is what i want to accomplish when im done. And i wont begin this until the beginning of a new week... like tomorrow. so expect a post tomorrow. I will try to write everything down.

Also ADVICE IS WANTED!!!!!! I cant do this on my own, cause im not exactly that experienced. so if you see any problem with my list, jsut let me know, or anyting you think would be a better replacement.

No go!! It seems in my eagerness to get started, i overdid it a little, and pulled a muscle in my arm, which is keeping me from doing anything! Trust me, i already tried alot, but it seems nothing is working... i think im gonna have to wait this out till its gone then restart from the beginning, at a much slower pace. Also, if you have any advice on arm pains, or how to get over them, please give it, cause this hurts alot!!!

Well, it seems that i was able to cope with the pain enough to do a few pushups... one armed. about 5 i think. Also, even though im injured, im not going to stop training. So here is what i did today for training.

Worked on precision jumping for bout 1 hour. couldnt do any more due to injury and plans.

WHAT I ATE TODAY

Breakfast: Home made burrito with cheese... wasnt to heavy.
Lunch: 2 chicken wings, green beans and corn, and potato wedges. All very good!!
Dinner: nothing... dont eat dinner on sundays =(
Late dinner/snack: (this is my way of compensating for no dinner) (this was not good at all, but i ate this as celebration for a huge thing i did) Sonics: 1' hot dog w/cheese and chili on top, small fries and Dr Pepper. Small ice cream, ate bout half then threw away.

I know what your thinking.. this isnt a very good diet. I know, but i am the kinda guy that can eat alot and still be skinny and strong. I will try to change it, but its gonna take time...

Going to a gym tomorrow to meet up with a friend for parkour training. Hope im feelin better tomorrow!!!

Ah, the sigh of relief!!! My arm feels 100 percent better!! So today, i resumed my training... kinda more like began it and worked pretty hard!!

Worked on speed vaults, kong vaults (cant do =( need help!!!) two handed vaults for bout 30 min. Did 50 push-ups, 7 pull-ups, and attempted a muscle up... couldnt complete, i regret to say. I need to work on that some more!! Also, i did 20 hip raises, and attempted to do glute ham raises, which are insanely HARD!!

did Apk warmup before i started, and did calf raises... 20 per leg, i think. This is a beginning, and a very humble one, might i add.
Worked on hand stands for bout 20 minutes, and was able to hold one for 10 seconds. im gettin there!!! Also, i need a little help. It seems no matter how hard i try, i cant get a roll down correctly. This might be cause im not used to my height yet, or it might be im executing it wrong. Either way, i need some help before i kill myself!!!

After that, i swam... more like sat... in a pool for bout ten minutes, then rode a scooter with some friends to a park, where i worked on pull-ups, sit-ups, walking backwards on a balance beam (= and worked on sprinting... im pretty much tired out, and i still have more to come!!!

Right after that, i went to a gym where i worked on my front flips, rolls (which are alot easier on matted grounds, and my kongs (finally did on!!!) I also did a backflip on a trampoline (pretty easy) and almost did a backflip into a foam pit, but didnt. Plus i did an unexpected side flip, which kindahurt because how i managed to do it, but i loved it, and its feeling!!!

What i ate today.
Breakfast: None, stayed up super late last night, so i woke up late...
Lunch: bowl of cantelope, about 20 pieces, and piece of lasanga.
Dinner:Ate some barbeque chicken... which was amazing!!!!

advice and comments wanted!!

GOD, IM SO SORE!! Yesterday was fun, but im very sore today, which kinda sucks, but i still have more to do!! I woke up kinda early, and jogged with one of my friends to his school and back, bout 2 1/12 miles both ways. Plus i went around his track once, so i did a lot of running today!!! didnt do apk workout or leg lifts, which i know i need to... but couldnt... cause im so sore!!!

Also, i tried to do some clean lifts, but wasnt able to do more than one. I just took some pain reliever, to help me, and its just settlin in, and once it does, im going to try again.

Im probobly over doing it, but i wont know for sure unless something bad happens.
Well, here is what i ate. Keep in mind, the only reason i ate like this because this is my last day before school!!!!

Breakfast:granola bar, 4 tostidos.... i think thats what there called.
Lunch: no lunch
Dinner: (this is where it gets bad O.O) 3 pieces of crazy bread from little ceaser's, along with 3 slices of pepperoni pizza. Frosty from wendy's, and a choco-taco from wal-mart (i feel so... so... FAT)

Well, anyway, im gonna be eaten better for school, mostly cause im poor and cant afford any super unhealthy crap like that... but either way, i never want to eat like that again!!

Hahaha!!! FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL COMPLETED!!!! There, i said it!! Well, anyway, school was interesting in the way that i might be able to start a club in school... which i am looking forward to trying!!

Well, anyway, today i worked on curl-ups, and was able to complete 75 in a row, which is only 25 away from my goal!!! i also worked on something called the "bicycle", which is this insane workout where you lay flat on the ground, put your hands behind your head, and then 'pedal' which means you have to bring a leg up, and an elbow down, and switch... and switch, and keep switching as fast as you can for as long as you can. I was able to do these for only about 20 seconds, which may sound like not to much, but if you tried this workout after 75 pushups, you would know how i feel! After that, i worked on my planche progression. I was able to do the frog stand for about 25 seconds, which isnt so bad, considering this is the first time i have worked on it!!

Anyway, after i worked on precisions for about 10 minutes, and handstands for 15.
Then, I went to a friends house, and they commented on parkour, and i showed them a little of what Im working on, which were... 4 handstand pushups, and a 30 second frog stand!! Even Better!!!!

What I ate today:
Breakfast: 2 slices of bread with peanut butter and a cup of coffee.
Lunch: spagetti, 2 light pieces of garlic bread, green beans, and a small container of chocolate milk.
Dinner: 2 Home made tacos which wer very good, and healthy. glass of water and milk.

So, Im in a small jam here. My school has interest in parkour, but no one is willing to start it. Im going to try, but i need some advice on this subject... any ideas?

Ah, Day Of rests are AMAZING!!! Haha, well, today is my first rest day, which i am VERY grateful for, no workouts today, but im prolly going to anyway =S. Ok, So i worked on precisions for 10 minutes, and handstands for bout 10 as well, and worked on frog stands for a little while. Was able to stay in the frog stand for about 5 sets of 15 seconds, which is better than a minute!! i then tried the next progression of the planche, with almost no success... a total of one second. I am not going to try that again till i can hold the frog stand for 45 seconds in a row.. I have a lot of work to do.

what i ate:
Breakfast: 2 pieces of french toast (homemade!!! (= ) and no syrup.
Lunch: One slice of whole grain pepperoni pizza, fries and one bottle of propel.
Dinner: home made lasanga and a salad.

So Im wonderin for anyone who knows, but about how long does it take for an order on APK to arrive?

Ah, the sigh of... oh wait, never mind... =)
Ok, well today, i worked on setting my record on my speed on my workout, and to see what I need to improve upon.
So today, I wrote a list of what i want to complete.

3x of 50 curl ups, each set in under a minute. Record time for one set... 47 seconds
3x of 25 push ups, each in under 30 seconds. Record time for one set... 20 seconds.
Planche progression (frog stand) 2x for 30 seconds. Record time for sets... 3x of 30, 2x of 15, and 4x of 10 second holds.
2x handstand, each for 1 seconds. Record time for hold... 16 seconds.
I only need to complete my record for the mile and pull ups!! =)

What i ate today
Breakfast: large home made pancake w/ whole wheat flour (OH YEAH, MY PANCAKES ARE HEALTHY!!!)
Lunch: Rice with gravy, and 2 home made hamburgers.... if you havent guess already, I love home made food!!
Dinner/snack: 1 1\4 pizza. Yeah i ate alot today, and im not feeling so great today... ugh.

Well anyway, tomorrow, I run a mile, and do as many pull ups as i can in 15 seconds. I also hope the gym is open tomorrow, other wise im going to be really bored... =(

Dang it!! Today was really boring and pointless... WORST LABOR DAY EVER!!! I had to stay home and watch one of my siblings, so i couldnt run or do anything outside. I also had to keep an eye on him, so i couldnt really go anywhere away from him, he had to follow me. So today wasnt exactly what i hoped it would be. So, i only was able to do a little planche and pushup workout, along with about 20 curl-ups.

What i ate
breakfast:nothing
Lunch:Bowl of cereal
Dinner:Pizza
As i said, today wasnt that great. I had to rely on my "amazing cooking skills" (said with INSANE AMOUNT OF SARCASM!!!) so i didnt do so great today. I hope tomorrow will be better.

HAHA!! While you dudes were sleeping, i had more energy than 6 year olds after an energy drink and a latte. The reason... i have absolutely no idea.

Well, anyway, this went to my good use!! I did almost 10 sets of 12 second handstands, and i also worked on my roll and my planche progression!! Seems like it was a very beneficial night for me!! =)

Ugh, today wasnt it!!
After a storm of epically epic proportions... ok, im exaggerating a little... it was just a huge wind that was blowing through my home town... IT BLEW OVER A CHAIR!!!!!! TWO CHAIRS!!!!!!

Anyway, since this dilemma was very long and didnt end till just now, i was not able to complete what i wanted to, which was a severe pull-up workout and running a mile or two... oh well, tomorrow shall be my day!! =)

Anyway, i worked on a few things like handstands and planche, but im having some trouble with the second progression of planche progression. Any ideas on how to get strong enough? I can do the frog stand for almost a minute straight, but when i try to do the second one, i cant stay up in the air for more than a second or two... help?

I also need some help with getting insanely flexible. I have some things coming up in gym class, and i need to be very flexible.. help please?
Well, that reminds me... in gym today, i played an insane game called colony ball for like 2 hours or so... insanely fun, and very hard.

What i ate today

Breafast:Coffee... no food
Lunch:2 tacos and some rice, along with 1% skim milk
Dinner: Home made white chili with home made bread... YUM!!!

I will post tomorrow on my progress.

One more thing. I have decided to do 50 curl-ups, 50 push-ups and 10 pull-ups every morning. So im going to be feeling a little more tired than usual!! IM READY!!!

Hahaha, I LOVE... hm, well, now that i think about it, there are to many answers... hm.
Well, anyway, today i got my new pair of shoes!! HAHA ARIAKES!!! Well, anyway, i found out that its going to take a good amount of running before they are worn in enough to do parkour.

Ok, so today, i was going to the park to do my workout, but i was called over by a friend to play some football. I went, and i played, and in turn was told that i would tear up the football team if i joined, and i also recieved... more like i trashed up my t-shirt (ripped due to a attempted tackle) grass stained jeans (My new ones =S) and some crappy socks... since i wore my new shoes, i took them off and played in my socks, which was awesome!!

So, i didnt exactly finish my workout, but i did learn how fast i can recover from something... pretty fast, actually.

I did manage to train a little, worked on my cat hang for bout 10 minutes, and my roll for bout 5, but get this... My friend is interested in Parkour!! So, Im going to try to start him out in it... i might have another person to train with!!! =)

Ok, so that was yesterday. Today, i went to a theme park... Six Flags, that is, and walked for pretty much the entire day! So, in total, i walked bout 15-20 miles, yet im not tired!! =)

Alright, so tomorrow i restart my conditioning. I will update and let you know what happens tomorrow... tomorrow!!

Today, i worked on my handstand for bout 5 minutes before i pulled a muscle... the very same muscle that i have pulled 5 times in a row while working on the handstand... =( So im going to try to stretch that before i work on it again. I also completed 2 15s frog stands, so im feelin pretty good. Alright, so just letting you know, if you think that my eating habits are bad, consider this.... the majority of the food i eat is home made cause i never go out, and its all been somehow been healthified, which is pretty good. It may be bad, but its not as bad as storebought =)

See ya dudes tomorrow!!
