Silent Running (Dead Silence or Ninja pro)
« on: August 24, 2010, 02:12:16 PM »
I was recently working on my roll and landings, when I realized how quiet they were, however when I run I make noise.
I was wondering if anyone knew how to fix this? I'm silent barefoot but my shoes make it much louder.

:P yes I do wanna ninja all my friends.
Just try to follow in my footsteps.....I run up walls :D

if you can actually land very quietly you can run very quietly. its just about muscle control knowing the shoes on your feet.

My landings are LOUD.
Like, I'll land on the balls of my feet, but it always ends up being a large impact with a big bang.
Fecteau, you are the first person I will turn to when I break up with Micah, haha

Fect, you get a gold star for the day.

Haha, I think it's my shoes, I got a pair of Nike Darts, which are pretty good I must say. But I'm not used to them yet.

im able to run silently in most shoes of course this was just a thing i picked up before i even got into parkour, i used to do it in heavy skateboarding shoes and scare the crap out of people :D, but to me its mainly all in the technique.

Its not the shoes its muscle control.  Work on calf exercise and running at night with a focus not on speed or distance but on silence.  Think of the ground coming up to meet your feet not your feet meeting the ground.

oh and turn this around before its too late. i used to be the same way until i started really trying to focus on it. the more noise you make the more likely you will have stress injuries.

Definitely muscle control. Though, depending on the surface you're running on, it might be impossible to stay quiet while running. I turn on my ninja pro all the time, though it never works on my hardwood floors. :P

I practice parkour in Converse nowadays, so I totally get loud landings and runs when I'm not concentration. But, I got much quieter when I started imitating how Altair sprints. Notice how his hands move in an elliptical motion (This helps keep the run fluid but takes some practice to get used to) and kepp your feet close to the ground as you run. Try to make it like a very fast walk with semi-long strides. The less time your feet are in the air, the less downward energy that is converted into soundwaves. This also improves speed and efficiency. =)
Have fun and screw gravity. ;D

you need to run rolling your foot heel to toe, on the outside of your shoe, like the left side of your left foot, and right side of your right foot
I like Tricking and Free Running, i don't think i actually do parkour, because i do it for fun and self expression, which would change the term to free running.

What? No, don't run heel-toe. Run on the balls of your feet.  Running on your heals destroys your knees and quads. If you are running properly, your joints will not hurt, but your calves will feel like steel.

Yes

No.
Although when I walk, I do walk rolling from heel to toe on the sides as you say. Native Americans covered all terrain silently this way.

if you take your headphones out of your ears you can hear everyone else louder (Ninja Pro).

you should absorb the impact with the balls of your feet focus on sreading the impact over times so instead of stoping quickly you slowly go into a crouch
run 10 miles
 fluent in french
 muscle up
 double kong
kong to cat
learn to frontflip
stretch every day
raise two thousand dollars for trip to lisses
make at least 5 good parkour vids
execute painfree roll on concrete
catch up on math, science
12 ft wallrun
50 push ups
1 minute handstand

I'm not sure if this'll work with you but it works with me!

like with landing, land on balls of the toes feet apart (duh) and crouch slow, when running lean forward crouch a little  and fast steps  but each time, you run on the tripod. (Kinda like Naruto, but Y'know minus the arms flailing back, unless u want to.)
