Depends, mostly storm sewers and drainage sewers.

You only need a 1 1/2 foot steel/titanium crow bar for manhole covers an most boarded up areas it also doubles and a defensive and offensive weapon. How ever I would suggest you stake the place out ;) or google/ask a few questions around the area about it. and bring a buddy and make sure someone knows where you are and how you got in :P so its faster to find you just in case you get lost.
I see no reason to try and impress you, But I will impress myself.

Pain may be weakness leaving the body but it sure hurts.

i did it before parkour. some say its illegal. pretty much you just go out and explore, your not suppose to take anything or leave anything, just look. abandoned buildings, sewers, roofs, etc.
i have a thing for abandon buildings, i would do that if i lived in a city, but its the suburbs for me  :-[

@Nathan, One of the unwritten rules of UrbExing is you don't break and enter. Lock picking on the other hand....

Okay so manhole covers, anyone go down one? Is it cool? Anything interesting there? Also the crowbar, self defense?? Why would you need self defense?

In terms of drains I've never ran into anything. Never brought a weapon either. Though my flashlight was a maglite to I guess you can use that for a weapon.

Are there any legalities to it? Like, going down a manhole cover? I wouldn't believe so? I really want to try it, you ever find anything cool in them??

You bet I do. Parkour and urban exploration go hand in hand, in my opinion.

I live in an area where there's quite a few condemned/abandoned places. Some people do think it's illegal, but it's one of those shifty, non-aggressively enforced laws. 90% of the time you're trespassing, but usually no one bothers you about it. Even on rare occasions that the police do show up, they don't arrest you, they just tell you to get out or at least be careful. I tend to steer away from cops anyway, but running isn't too hard for people like us, is it?

no body give any techniques to entering. thats one place we shouldnt go on this forum.

if you climb a fence to get somewhere you shouldnt be you can (CAN BE) charged with breaking and entering, let alone prying open a door or breaking a window. the best part of urban exploring is the challenge of the puzzle, getting in with nothing damaged.

"take nothing but photographs and leave nothing but footprints" is a motto i live by. a lot of it seems glamorous and you might instinctively think that you will see the coolest shit ever.

thats like thinking parkour is all about flips and big jumps. im going to leave it at that, PM me if you have any questions or are in the area and want to link up.

my mind is constantly moving, one day my body will be strong enough to keep up.

Max knows what's up.

Urban Exploring photo's depend on a few things to me. How awesome the place your in actually is and how good you are with photography. Because most places won't be anything special if you can't make them look special. Although one of my tricker friends took some maaaad good urban ex photos.

Going down a man hole is a terrible idea! There can be lethal gasses, and other dangerous shit down there. And there isn't even anything cool, just a lot of shit. What did you expect to find down there, treasure?

And Max, those are some wonderful photos. :)

It sounds like tons of fun, and I've always wanted to.

The most I've ever explored it a WWII bomb thingy...for testing grenades, IIRC. Just lots of 30+ foot tall walls and broken crap. And then, I've explored in the woods before. I've found a drainage system for a lake that must have been there, and scattered trash. I'm gonna go back there when the poison ivy clears up and find stuff to do. Maybe I should take some photos of the huge walls, haha.
